First off, I'm no wrench. I don't even play one on TV.

Now that we have that out of the way, here's my question:

The bike has been a bit sluggish, and not really running as smoothly as it should for the last couple of months. Although I use the highest octane, I thought maybe I had a bad tank of gas. It happens.

I put a dash of SeaFoam in with my next fill up. Wow, what a great difference. The power and snap were back, and that baby purred.

Two tanks later, (from different stations and different brands), and I was back to the way I was before. Another glug of SeaFoam in the next tank and we were back to smooth acceleration and that beautiful purrrrrrrr that I love.

So, what needs to change here? Obviously something isn't working correctly. Sensor? FI map? What do I tell the tech at the dealer to look for?

S1/L1 and everything else stock.

Thanks in advance.

How many miles do you have on it? At about 10,000 I am thinking my plugs need to be inspected.

Sea Foam uses alcohol as a carrier, and most of the extra zip you feel is the extra combustibility. Thes bikes use adaptive logic, and tailor themselves to YOUR driving habits. If you run slow, and easy they will back things off, and will become slugish feeling. Switch to a lower octane fuel, and run the balls off your bike for a couple of tanks. Good ole fashioned blowing it out.

Well, okay. If I have to.

Thanks kevinx, I'll give that a try. I think I remember you posting before about the adaptive logic.

Adaptive logic in a fuel processing system on a motorcycle. Dang I love this bike.

Have you looked at your plugs? They can tell you a lot.

With the re-map etc. My vision was a little sluggish also ,so:the next scheduled service the folks put in new spark plugs. That worked for a while but after another 10,000 miles it seemed to be "missing"once in a while when passing ather lesser two wheelers.Next service, the guys said I had the wrong plugs (different dealer). they put in the same type plugs that came from the factory and since then, NO PROBLEMS.

Point being (plugs are cheap) check to see if the number on the plugs are the ones listed in the book.

Even when it was not perfect it sure was sweeter than anything else on the road!!!

Took me a while to get back to the thread, I've been out riding.

Problem solved. I did exactly as kevinx said and the bike is humming. I ride 2up 99% of the time and it's very easy to fall into the 'smooth and steady' cruising pace. Now I'm a bit more aggressive on the throttle and I open her up a bit more when I have the chance.

The bike is back to her snappy old self. Funny thing too - I'm getting a bit better gas mileage.

I've got to try this lower octane bit though it don't make any sense to me. but who can argue with proven methods.... but me. not that I'm havin' a probelm, but the better gas mileage is intreging, i'm getting around 40 - 42 consistantly through the summer months...

In a nut shell....
Octane is a measurement of a fuels ability to RESIST combustion. Using higher then needed octane results in MORE UNBURNED FUEL, and more carbon build up. Fuel companies LIED TO US for many years, and succeeded in suckering the public into buying more expensive fuel that was actually BAD for their vehicles

Got it! But the Bentley sounds like it's going blow apart. I thought something broke loose and was rattling it's pinging so bad. It's even been poppin'. Going back to 93!

I would recomend that you run a good carbon cleaner in your fuel for a couple of tanks. All that unburned fuel has now created a layer of carbon on the tops of your pistons. The carbon layer creates hotspots, and that causes pinging. Then you can go back to the lower octane experiment with better results

Just returned from AVR and when I reached the upper mid-west I couldn't find anything higher than 89 octane...the STARSHIP actually ran better but my mileage dropped to 42mpg......I run 91/93 here in Houston and get right at 46mpg but I have the 'pop' when I shift.
