I worked on Sparks today to finish up some projects.

I finished up the horn install. I did not video the install but I will take pictures and video in a few weeks.

Here are steps I followed.

I fabricated a single bracket that mounted between bolts that hold the fairing together. The bracket was about 4 3/8 inch long from center hole to center hole by 1 inch wide. One end of the bracket mounts to a bolt of the inner fairing and the other end mounts to a bolt on the front nacelle. The bracket has a single hole to mount the horn 1 1/2 inches from inner fairing bolt.

I curved the bracket so that the horn can sit a little more inside the fairing. The bracket looks like a flattened question mark. I used blue locktite on the horn mounting bolt.

A side-tap was installed on the original horn positive output wire to energize the relay.

The relay is velcro'ed under the console near the key switch.

A side tap on the ground and power from the aux power jack under the console provides power to the relay.

A few weeks ago a friend (Rude Dawg) and I rode our bikes to lunch. After lunch, we parked and walked back to the office.

Something shiny caught my eye near a speed bump. It was my Bell! The one that Rude Dawg gave me! A car had ran over it. It was bent up but I thought I could salvage it. I took it home and straightened it out some and remounted it on my Vision today.

*********

While I had the console open today I painted it black. I did not let it cure enough and put a few scratches on the finish before I got it installed. That won't bother me too much since I painted it to kill the glare not to win a bike show.

RT, Thanks for the ideas. I did exactly the same on my console also, painted and didn't let it cure long enough. It's been like that for almost a year now, and it does as intended, kill the glare.

RT what type of horn did you install (I must have missed that post)? Interesting story from some years back; I live in a fairly congested traffic area and folks like to move into your lane without paying much attention. So I decided some airhorns would be the ticket. Got the horns all mounted and man were they loud, so loud they made me a little dizzy if I held the button too long.
Anyhow I was riding in the inside lane one day shortly after and some little white haired ole lady starts moving over on me, so I give the horn a toot, BIG MISTAKE!!! Instead of having the desired affect in that she would move back into her own lane, she turned her head to see where the noise had come from and came right over in my lane, FAST.
Long story short I don't blow my horn anymore except to beep beep someone as we are parting ways.

Teach,

Its the Stebel Nautilus or Bad Boy™ Air Horn. They are the same horn.

Here is data on the horn.

Here is the thread from VR.

How do I mount the Stebel Nautilus?
http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=3875

Not everyone would react the way the white haired ole lady did.

I find that lane wanders, people texting and cell phone users will normally stay in their lane better when a tractor trailer rig blows its horn.

I would not just blow my horn and plow on. I would use the horn while driving in a defensive manner.

Plus, it might wake up the driver sleeping at the green light.

The Stebel is one powerful horn. I've used it on other bikes, but haven't put it on the Vision yet.

Hmmm. . . .maybe dual Stebles.

FYI: It works wonders on Nuns as well. Don't ask me how I know this.

To hell with the horn and the dash. Dont EVER take your eyes off that bell. The fact that you lost, and then found that bell is something most will never understand. Im not superstitious, but finding the bell you thought was lost, has to have something to it. Definately a bell that was giving to you out of love and concern for your saftey.

cjnoho,

Rude Dawg (Alamo City Chapter, Gypsy MC) and I figure that I lost it on the way to lunch. I did not even know that it was missing. At first it was "Look its a bell" then I saw the face of a hog on it and "ding" "Hey its MY Bell!".

When Rude Dawg gave me the bell I had to laugh. What's this, a Hog? Why, yes it is!

For his new 2009 Ultra I gave him the Air Force emblem bell. He is AF retired and a former Training Instructor.
