Hello all,

I am in the market for a Vision and I would like to know any reason or reasons that I should not buy a new 08 or 09 Tour Premium as apposed to a 2010. I am confident I can pick up an 08 or 09 at a
significant

The 08 Ultra I currently use as my long haul Two up tourer can haul allot of stuff so I would also like to know any tips or trick or special gear that will allow you to load this bike up for a two week trip for two people. How much stuff can you put on the top rack and does anyone make bags that sit on top of the saddle bags?

Thanks for your help

John

yo john. welcome aboard. I've got an 08 and more than happy with 'er. the '09 might be more refined and have different color choices. as for the '10s time will only tell. I guess it is all in the deal you'll get between an '08 vs '09.

It sounds that you've not stood next to a vision yet, but I don't see any why to functionally to mount a rack to the saddle bags. I have the trunk rack and put a good size small (?) overnight bag up there with no problem.

trailers seem to be making it big for this bike, at least for some, and I have my sights set on one. If you've loaded for an Ultra I think you could work it out on the Vision, but my guess you're loaded for bear.

Thanks for the info.

I have ridden one for about 300 miles, thats why I want one. The owner of the Vision said he had scene a Vision with roll packs attached to the side of the bike on the hand holds. He was not sure where he saw it but it seems to me it could be done.

Buy an 08 and with the money you've saved buy a trailer and hitch, serious!
Ok here is the observation from someone who has owned several HD baggers and an 08 Vision. The saddlebag liners from your HD will fit in the saddlebags of the Vision. You have to put the bottom back corner in first but they fit easily. So whatever you'd normally pack in your Ultra Saddlebags will easily go in the Visions. I know some folks say they are smaller but I kept my RG pretty well packed and the Vision holds as much.
You will want the Vision Trunk liner (bag). Unlike the HD TourPack, the Vision pack has a substancial amount of its claimed storage in the curved lid area which renders it useless, or at least not easy to use. The trunk liner allows you to use it all without stuff falling out every time you raise the trunk lid. So whatever you'd get in your HD tourpack, you'll get a little less in the Visions, but not a lot less. So if you have a tourpack rack and a good duffle for strapping down on top you'll more than make up for any loss of tourpack space.
I guess what I'm saying is if you pack for 2 people on your Ultra with no problem, you'll find it just as easy on the Vision.
I imagine you could strap some soft nylon bags to the passenger grab handles but I sure wouldn't want them rubbing against my saddlebag paint.
Now the SIMPLE solution for two-up on a two week trip would be a trailer and that is what a number of folks have done. This allows you to pack whatever you like and pick up whatever you like along the way without compromise. Most of my ride friends from around the US have switched to pulling a trailer in place of loading the bike down (all bike brands). I've installed my hitch and wiring and have my eyes on a trailer for next summer. Worth the extra if you travel by bike regularly (I do).
I've made many long distance trips loaded down on both my Vision and my HD's.... You'll not find any problems loading the Vision you didn't encounter on the HD. Each packs a little different but they haul about the same amount.

Thank you, that's what I need to know. I will go without the trailer as long as I can.

So Cal
I had an 02 e-glide and now an 08 vision. The vision side bags hold just as much but need more thought when packing due to the resess. My wife needs to take 2 weeks worth for a 2 day ride. Neither bike could hold that. When we go, I dont tell her we're staying overnight til we get there. If she needs it, we buy it there. If it wont fit, we throw it out or have it mailed home. As far as shopping most places will ship things home. Im with varyder, 09 will have more bugs worked out. Although if the 08 owner loved the bike, good chance he got the bugs out allready. Bottom line is price. If its a really good deal, you can spend a little to work the bugs out. Provided you have a dealer close that will work with you.

There are brand new '08s still to be had.  Get a killer deal on an '08, load it out with chrome (or spend $3K on custom paint) and make an appointment with kevinx for the Lloydz cam set-up with the savings.  If you are going to need reverse, go '09.  Either bike will include a 5-year warranty, the '10s do not.

Try this....Load your Ultra with all of your gear and drive to your closest Victory dealer. Ask the dealer to pull a Vision up next to your Ultra and then take all of your gear from your Ultra and load it in the Vision. You are gonna be a bit suprised.

The top rack on the Vision is not quite as useful as the Ultra's. Not sure of the max. load rating of either but the Vision's is kinda on the small side.

The saddlebag and trunk liners are going to be a wise investment. They are available much cheaper on Ebay.

I've never seen bags attached to the side of a Vision but I suppose it could be done, however probably would never need to though. If you go somewhere and make a few to many purchases you can easily find a pack & ship place and ship stuff back home fairly cheap.

If you ride one-up Victory has a very nice tour bag that occupies the passenger area. But don't buy the Victory one though, its actually made by Saddlemen and can be purchased for about half the price directly from Saddlemen or can be had on Ebay.

Other than colors and the reverse option on 09 & 10 there isn't any other real difference between the years. And no different "problems" between the years. However I'm pretty sure that the 5 year warranty offer being included with the bike purchase has expired and now has to be purchased seperately. But it can be purchased for about $550-600ish from several sources, if your dealer won't match price on the extended warranty you can ask around here and we will point you in the right direction.
