Hartland, , WI | First part of two part question:
I asked for feedback on the Cee Bailey new taller windshield specifically and didn't get much feedback...when I rode with a fellow Vision rider $Bill the other day and he had the taller Cee Bailey that I want to get. Not for me but for my better half...we do much two up riding and she is 5'8" and noticed more wind with my stock screen compared to her ride on my BMW LT. $Bill had a great observation that the taller windshield also made the wind loop and hit the passenger from behind so maybe the taller screen isn't all love and beans....comments?
Part two: It also got me thinking about not reading much information coming from the second seater on many threads other than...comfortable. Anybody got a co-pilot that has given some detailed feedback? Mine loves it and isn't fussy...we have open faced helmets and it's not been too bad for her and no complaints about the wind blast buffeting her head around...and that's about it. She loves the time we spend on the bike but maybe it's cause she can't keep her hands off my "dingle balls"...the ones I have hanging off the back of the bike you naughty thinkers  |

Dale, Indiana | Luckily the wife and I haven't been in too much rain.
When we have, I like to lower the windshield so I can see better in the rain. However, the wife then jabs me because she's then getting hit in the face (helmet) with wind and rain.
When the windshield is up she stays fairly dry and is happy (as happy as one can be in the rain). I did notice that her back is wet when we stop. But, I guess not to wet because she wasn't complaining.
Mind you all our rain riding has been short showers. I only hit the long set in rain when I am by myself it seems. At those times I suit up in my rain gear.

Wife use to hang onto the handles at first; now she just sits back like she's watching TV.
She's never complained about the wind.
Only complaint is when I jab on the brakes hard because I made a last minute decision on making a turn.
One thing I am lucky. No matter how fast I roll into the curves she never says a word. I have asked if she ever gets worried, and she says she doesn't.
I think she trusts the bike more then me though.

We're from your neck of the woods as well.
On shorter rides my wife rides alone quite often but for longer rides we go two-up. We are both short - I'm 5'10" on a good day and she's 5'1" on tip toes, so the standard windshield has been fine for us.
For the ride from the back seat - She loves the ride, the seat is big enough and has enough padding. She has short legs and the risers for the floorboards have put them close enough to be comfortable - they were not at all usable before the risers for her. When we are at highway speed she does complain about buffeting if the windshield is down at all - so it stays up. And she has noticed the wind pressure on her back but it is not bothersome. We have also noticed that in any rain at all even if I don't get 'wet' (relative term here), water will run down the back of my jacket and get her wet - as well as her back. I assume because of the negitive pressure created by the slower moving air behind the windshield and fairing. Over all this bike provides the best riding we have ever done.
BTW - She likes to read books on the back of the bike when crossing areas like corn-country in mid-Iowa.... And has done so successfully a couple of times.

, FL United States | Vance, I now have over 18k miles on my Vis & aprx 75% of that is 2UP. When WE ride, SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) insists the windshield be fully up & the lowers be fully out.She says that this configuration keeps the wind/rain off of her as much as is possible. Of course we still get wet in traffic at slower speeds but that's what rain gear is for. We have used the heated seats occasionally & she likes it.
As far as her being comfortable back there, twice she has fallen asleep while on a "longish" lunch ride (100 miles or more headed home after a big meal & adult beverages). It's her prerogative to imbibe adult beverages, as she's not "driving". I of course must have water, soda or iced tea because I AM the Vision Pilot.

We also have the stock tall windshield all the way up at highway speeds or I get notified of turbulence. We have the intercom/IPOD going all the time and she site see's and I miss all the stuff because I'm busy watching the road and trying to look cool!
But I am still wondering if I am helping with the negative air flow to a fault by getting a taller Cee Bailey? Bigger/taller was better for her on the BMW LT but I think she sits a little taller in this seat on the Vision.
She does love the seat on this one too...had armrests on the BMW and she only mildly misses them. Longest trip so far has been a little over two hours one way...big rides next year though...hopefully AVR. |

Sparta, WI | I am Minnow's co-pilot and here are my comments.
I have rode on the back of a Harley - Road King, Vision is a way better ride, Honda - Gold Wing, that was like riding on melted chocolate, but I don't care for the looks at all and I can't compare to the BMW but I have heard that it is a sweet ride also. We have put on about 8,500 miles this summer on the Vision. When I ride behind Minnow, my chin is at the top of Minnow's head. I can actually see where we are going and what is coming toward us without me leaning over Minnow's shoulder. When we are riding down the highway when the windshield is lowered the wind smacks me in the face but at slower speeds it is not bad at all. When it is up, the wind comes around and pushes on the back of your head, at times my hair in the middle of the back of my head is pushed downward but the sides blow back - I don't wear a helmet much and I have longer hair that I love blowing around on the ride, I personally like the wind in my face, isn't that part of the ride? I heard a woman say (complaining) that the wind blows all around her head when she rides(She was on a Gold Wing). I figure, if you don't like the wind get a convertable and roll the windows up and keep the top latched. I am a 5'10" German/Norwegian not real petite let's say and have to say it is a real nice ride, easy to get on and off and sufficient room. I have taken a few naps on the back also. There are times that I have grabbed onto the handelbars but that when when the wind was gusting. The only thing that I can complain about is that if you are on a long ride you really don't have a place to rest your arms, I can get my arms onto the speaker area but that isn't that comfortable and I don't like the looks of the add on arm rests. I haven't had much experience riding in the rain with our Vision, but there also, you are riding in the rain if you don't want to get wet take your convertible. Overall, I Love the Bike.

Yes the wind does come from behind with the shield all the way up. I am going to play around this winter with reducing the dead air space that actually causes this phenomenon. |

As I give you my thoughts on this, you should know that about 80% or more of my riding is 2 up.
Part 1: I am 6'-4" and my SO is 5'-6". I had the tall Vision windshield, but when it was in the full up position, the top of the windshield hit right in my line of sight, so I installed the tall (22") Cee Bailey. The Cee Bailey is 2 3/4" taller and 5" wider that stock. I can see over the top of the windshield when it is down, and through it when it is up (great optics; much better than stock). My SO says it blocks the wind better than stock, but does notice a bit more wind from behind when it is full up, although she says its not a problem for her, and she far prefers the new windshield. Haven't ridden in the rain yet with the new windshield, so can't report on water protection.
Part 2: My SO had spent considerable time on the back of my Road King, and at first thought there was actually too much room on the Vision's back seat! She said she felt like she was "flopping around" compared to the security she felt on the Road King, and spent much of the ride hanging on to the handles. She also thought the seat back (I have the Tour) was sloped back to far (she prefers sitting more upright) and that the padding wasn't as comfortable, although she did prefer the Vision's seat to the Harley. I subsequently added the Utopia back rest and she said that made all the difference in the world for her. She felt more secure, and no longer holds on (OK, maybe sometimes!). She has adjusted to the seat back angle and now prefers the Vision to the Road King. The wind is actually much less for her on the Vision compared to the Road King, and she doesn't mind what she says is minimal wind from behind with the windshield full up. We both wear 3/4 helmets, mine open face and hers with a face shield. She says she does not experience any kind of buffeting and is now very comfortable in the back seat. Our weekend rides are frequently 150 to 200 miles at a time (and sometimes longer), and we have taken 3 trips with our longest day so far at about 450 miles in one day. She says she now strongly prefers the Vision, and since I added the back rest and new windshield, she says she is really comfortable.
By the way, my SO is far more comfortable on the highway and in the twisties on the Vision that she ever was on the Harley. Where she is enjoying the Vision ride much more, and doesn't hit me on the side of the head as much when I am going too fast.

Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | Most of my riding is two-up. Our roads are curvy, mountainous - and freeways are only used to get in/out of the city.
One thing I dislike about my Vision is that co-pilot doesn't 'hug' me as we ride - which she did on my previous machine. In fact, I often have to reach back and grab her leg - just to re-assure me that she is still aboard.
She loves the ride, and spends her time taking photos and movies of our trips. Or she snoozes thru the boring parts. She tells me that she has no 'comfort' or 'wind' issues, and I know she remains dry when we get rained on - even tho she is just wearing her leathers and open-face helmet. Co-pilot is small - 5 foot / 95 lbs whereas I am 5' 8" and 220 lbs - so I make a pretty good rain/wind break.
The only 'must have' was passenger footrest relocation kit - which we had installed before delivery.
I recently showed her photos of passenger arm rests - and her comment was that they were unnecessary and somewhat ugly. Drinking while driving is not something either of us have ever bothered with - so drinkholder is not something we care about. Nuff said. |

Thanks for the notes...glad to see Minnow's Co-pilot take control of the keyboard and key one off! I really hadn't thought much of the rain yet...but if we do a few long trips this next summer I'll have to consider it. We have rain gear for emergency only...otherwise we'd pull over and keep the bartender company til its done.
I think Maria's head is about chin high above my helmet too...I'm just shy of 6'...we have open face 3/4 helmets without face shields and really haven't needed them yet...get caught in the rain and I'll bet I want one.
I do have to say that the electronics on the Vision are even better than the BMW LT...VOX intercom way better, love the IPOD interface...unlike some others, mine works as advertised so we chat and listen to our fav's and enjoy getting lost on the Vision. The one thing that was nicer on the Beemer was the quick hydraulic valve adjustment for two up riding and then back down when solo. I tried leaving the air at 60 lbs. as a comprimise but took it out when I noticed the much better feel when solo.
The Cee Baley tall is what I am after by the sounds of it...I'm used to the taller windshield and looking through it and didn't even realize the distortion...it was either distortion or June bug in the face...no thanks, I'll keep the the windshield up when on the highway.

Woodland Hills, CA | Vinner, not only does the Cee Bailey windshield have considerably better optics (no distortion), it is thicker and seems to be better made than the Victory windshield. The guys who make Cee Bailey primarily make aircraft windshields, and I can tell you from someone who has used them on an airplane, they are great. Of course, now the only flying I do is on the Vision, but you get the idea. |

Northeastern Penna. | I do my riding about half of the time solo on my comfort model. The other half, my wife rides.
She says the ride is very comfortable,loves the speakers in the back. As far as the wind buffeting,
she has not said anything about it.
I could feel some even with the stock windshield up all the way. I think the stock windshield that comes with the comfort is the standard tall windshield, does anyone know?
I think I am going to get the tall CeeBailey's windshield next spring. |
