On the BMW K1200LT, the front power outlet is on full-time. This is handy, since you can hook up a Battery Tender to that outlet, and it will keep the battery maintained. Is the optional power outlet for the Vision on full-time?

Thanks,

Robert

If I remember correctly the one in the front "Ipod" compartment is on with the key on or in Acc positions but the one in the trunk is on at all times.

On the same topic, am I missing something???? I just paid 40 bucks for the power outlets and installed them before I realized that they are smaller than a typical 12 volt power plug. Any ideas why and how are you supposed to use them???

Go to www.powerlet.net for adapters/cords that will do what you want.

They are just like the outlets on the BMW, so my Tender and other accessories are already set up for them. Good to know the back one is always on. That's the one I'll hook the Tender to.

Thanks,

Robert

I keep my cell phone plugged into the outlet in the trunk when on long rides using an adapter I purchased from Powerlet (~$20). It has two cigar lighter type plugs, so can charge the phone and something else while riding. I also have a single adapter in the front compartment for the portable Sirius radio.

At least 1/2 the time, the cell phone charger has vibrated out from the adapter because the cigar lighter is just not as good of a plug as the Powerlet plug. A winter project will be to make some Powerlet compatible cords for the cell phone and Sirius units and eliminate the adapters except for special occassions to plug in some 'old technology' device.

I for one applaud Victory for using newer and better technology that is already heavily used in the motorcycle industry. And I am sure of they would have stuck with the old cigar lighter plugs, there would have been just as many people complaining about this as they are for using Powerlet, so they were screwed either way.

Finally, regarding the battery tender on the Powerlet plug. Being able to use this plug to charge the battery is part of the Powerlet specification/design as I understand it. I never tried doing this with a traditional cigar plug, but have read about devices for this, but most are not recommended based on reviews because of blowing fuses, slow charge rate, etc. So if the Powerlet was actually designed with this in mind, perhaps another benefit of this newer and arguably better technology.

There is also a plug soe a charger already installed on the battery terminals. It is a flat-type plug that is the same as the one on my tricle charger now. I found it handy when I didn't shut the trunk all the way, and the light ran the battery all the way down.....-----Metalguy
