I can't really compare the two, since all I've ever heard is stock and L2. I can tell you that I really like the L2, though. It is pretty "civilized" at low throttle positions, but gives a really nice roar as you open it up. My Harley buddy says it sounds good, not as loud as his (he sets off car alarms...) but better and more tuned than, say, a Honda VTX with Cobra pipes (we have a friend with one that sounds really nice, so that's where the comparison came from).

All-in-all I'm very happy with the L2s.

i don't have experience with the S1L2, but from what I've heard, the Big Honkers aren't that loud (granted I just got my Vision with them today). They are loud at start up, but when on the road, seem civilized. Again, I a rookie. I HATE overly loud bikes, but I find the Honkers "just right".

I'm personally not satisfied with my St1 level 2 pipes. They're a little to quiet for my taste. My last set was Cobra's on a V-Star with the baffles still in them. They were perfect for me. With the removable baffles gone, they were slightly too loud and not very clean. These are much quieter. You can still hear the compression though, which is a plus. Tom, I'd REALLY like to trade pipes with you. My problem is that I'll be touring Route 66 and I'll be gone for about 2-3 weeks starting about Sept 16th. I get back on shore from work tomorrow night. I dunno Tom, what'ya think?

Coming off a 1124ci harley with a D&D Boarzilla pipe the Big Honkers are quiet in comparison. However i can hear after a long ride, no ringing ears. Ive had people ask what kind of pipes i have, both Harley and metric riders, and all want the deep rumble sound. I am real impressed but have yet to hear what they sound like on my bike...guess im gonna have to find someone i trust to do a ride by for me. This Vision with the Honkers is by far the best riding bike ive ever owned and have been riding for 32 years.

I test drove the dealers demo bike with the S1L2 pipes and couldn't believe they wanted so much money for those things. I ordered the Big Honkers, then after a week found out they were back ordered for over a month. Then I got a set of the Cycle Dragon pipes. They're just right for me. Nice rumble on acceleration, not too loud at cruising speed. I've had them for a month and haven't had to have a download done to the ECM.

My brother-in-law has some pipes on his E-Glide (not sure what brand they are) that you can hear a mile or more away. They are so loud, in fact, that my sister-in-law quit riding with him because the noise gave her such a bad headache after about 10 minutes.

I can't help, but I am very interested in which is louder, deeper and has better performance. I should have my 10th Anniversary Vision in a couple of weeks and I am coming from a Vulcan 2000. 2053cc with Vance and Hines PowerShots with no baffles. Very Low, Loud when I would get on it, but not too bad on the highway, and lots of power. I know that the Vision will not have the Power that I am used to, but the Vision is going to be a far better motorcycle overall, I hope.

excelboy10, Just as a side note for you to be aware of and pay attention to. Please remember that any pipe change on a motorcycle from OEM is going to let it breath better. The bike is already programmed to run on the lean side to meet Government environmental standards. As long as you dont hear any excessive popping on decel or back firing, you should be ok. I post this only cause i would feel bad if i said nothing at all and you ended up burning your valves or worse a piston just because you were running to far on the lean side. A little popping is usualy ok, a minor exhaust leak can cause that, and with all of the joints between the exhuast port, cross over pipe and the final connection, there are a few places that you can get an exhuast leak.  As long as you are happy with it, that is all anyone can ask.

Happy Riding

I installed Cycle Dragon Pipes because they are tunable. You can add packing or remove packing to achieve the sound you want. I left them just the way they came and installed the Gatlin Tips. It sounds deeper and louder than stage 2 pipes. I am very happy with the pipes. I have heard them with someone else driving and they sound great. I ride with several other bikes and they all have given positive responses on the sound and volume.

Here is a video of my bike with the Stage 1 Level 2 exhaust. I start it, burb the throttle, rev it up to about 5500rpm and then dwell at about 2400 rpm, which is about cruising rpm. Enjoy,

Yeah, I have just posted a demonstration of that as well. I decided to start a youtube account and I've had a camcorder laying around. I wish we had an area to post stuff like this, similar to the tech reference library with "sticky" posts.

Went to Cycle Dragon today. They had a SSG vision there with their pipes on it. It has a nice deep tone to it. Not too loud, wont overpower the radio. No remap needed. Flowthrough design reduces heat also. Definate improvement in power. I've heard the bighonkers. They sound a little harsh for my tastes. The Cycle Dragon pipes are my personal choice.
