I really wish you audiophiles had posted about how GREAT the DB521 speakers from Polk Audio are. I blew out another left rear speaker so I ordered a pair of these from Amazon. Great service btw - the pkg came in 3 days w/o me spending any extra for "fast shipping".

I installed them this afternoon and tested them @ the "old" fader setting I had used for the J&M's and they're so loud that they overpowered the front speakers (J&M's also). I readjusted the fader settings to less of a rear bias so I could still hear the fronts.

The cost for a pair of these speakers from Amazon was $63.02 - not $95 per pair I had seen on other websites.

I'll wait 'til the fronts have a problem before I order another pair 'cause $s are tight right now.

We did! It was even in a vision tech article along with the Rockford Fosgate amp install instructions! If you're like me, though, you don't come here every day, I think I skipped several months for a while due to not living in a digital world. Some days I just have to work, eat and sleep.

Did you upgrade the amp, or just replace the OEM speakers?

Tim, no amp, just easy replacement of speakers with NO modifications necessary.

I'm rocking Polk MM521s with an amp. They list for $229, but are on eBay for $118 with free shipping. They were much better than the Kicker upgrade speakers for $199 before I added amp (that's list and except for the ones I sold on eBay you can't find cheaper.)
The downside is the remote crossover and they don't quite fir in front with enclosure mod. Rated at 90W continuous and 200W peak, I'm ready for the RF amp when the Alpine give me trouble again.

CoolHandLuke...how do they handle bass? I took my 2nd ride on my bike today. While warming up the engine, I noticed the rear speakers were distorting! I didn't even have the volume half way up and the treble and bass were set at neutral. Could they be loose? If not and being a part time audiofile, I am very discouraged with the lack of range/Hz. There is NO bass what so ever.

I will look up to see what Hz specs are on the Polk Audios but I would be very interested to hear from others on how they like them and if there are other alternates.

Just looked up the specs....look pretty impressive for 5 1/4" speakers. At 45 RMS max, they can definitely handle the stock equipment.

power range: 4-45 watts RMS (135 watts peak power)
frequency response: 60-22,000 Hz

Ty handle bass like a 5.25" speaker. But what bass they do have is better than stock.

When I upgraded to the Polks, I also wrapped the front enclosures with dynomat and put some around the area behind rear speakers. I think it helped the quality or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

You might find, as I have, that the vibration (from road or loud music) will weaken and eventually break the solder connection of the crossover on the DB521's. Suddenly there will be no bass, just treble coming from the speaker and the stereo imaging will shift to one side (left or right). The simple fix is to take the speaker out and resolver the joint. You might also try to glue the crossover to the metal speaker bucket for added support. This happened to both my front speakers, of course not at the same time. Later, when I installed the rear set, I bolstered the solder joint and glued the crossover before I put them in.

I do like the sound of them. They are much clearer and louder than stock.

Does anyone know if the DB521's will fit in the front speaker pockets without modification?

Thanks!
