Reading your post, I recalled a video i came accross of a 2012 Ness Vision. The video is featuring the sound of his Thundersticks, however in the video you can see the owner had installed "apes". Thought you would appreciate another example of what you've decribed. I shared your frustration as I had to wade through all the unsolicited and unrelated opinion just to get to a usable reponses to your question.

It would have helped if I had actually attached the video wouldn't it? Sorry about that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0pygnuooQk

That last post is exactly what I'm looking for. I went from standard bars to 12" mini apes on my Roadstar and it increased the comfort level for me dramatically. I can ride all day on it now. But on the vision I'm getting a little shoulder pain after 4 or 5 hours, just like I used to get on the Roadstar. Anyone know where I can find 12" mini apes like these?

Going to the doc tomorrow for more poking and prodding. This will help know which direction I'll go with all of this. I'm also taking another long ride on Saturday so I can do some modified riding. I don't use a back rest, and even when I do have something, like my Saddleman I don't normally push back. I'll try riding leaning back and see what happens. I try to straigthen my arms and ride that way and see how that feels. But it seems my long distant riding, I really don't have a problem, it is the short, 30 mile commute that I have issues in my shoulder, arms and hands.

I've been studying my stock handle bars and it almost seems I could bend them to a position that may help, but I don't want to find out that doesn't help and can't shape them back. Thanks for all the constructive input.

Just a thought in the direction of "cause and affect". Could it be that the discomfort you notice more on your commute, and not so much on longer road trips is because you're on full alert and more tense while in commuter traffic?

I just ran accross a thread created by the owner of that 2012 Ness Vision from the video I sent you earlier. The apes he installed were Ness Apes for a Vision. these bars are available in gloss black or Chrome.
I've attached the thread as well as the Ness page for the bars.

Something like that.  I have a desk job, and type a lot, so there is probably the source of the real problems.  While I will agree with you on the commute traffic, I did not necessarily note that while on the recent roadtrip in commute type traffic.  I hate nerve related problems because they are so hard to find, but the symptoms are very real.  I ride with high energy all the time, and gave thought to your assesment.  I'm going to be more cognizant of what I do when I ride Saturday to see if I can find a trigger.  Thing is, my symptoms are not strictly related when I ride, I just don't want it to affect my riding.  I wonder if my medical insurance will pay for my apes since they will be therapeutic in nature?

well, saw the doc today. The bad news, they can't find out what the problem is, the good news is, they can't find any problem. The physical damage is no worse and I'm doing things to help. I'll see what I can come up with tomorrow on my ride.

They're not apes but I have the HMD pullback bars sitting in my shop. They didn't work for me but are drilled for resevoirs and scuffed up some so couldn't be returned. Some nerve damage in my right hand from bandsaw incidents; somehow the pullbacks made my hand go numb within 50 miles. Let me know if you'd like to try them, we can work something out.

Thanks for the offer, but I need less pull back, I find that the majority of my problem creeps in when my elbows are at a 90 degree, especially when riding.
