I was doing my usual surfing on the forums when I found a thread titled "Front Fork LED Running lights" in the "Vision Tech Q & A" section. A guy in Europe (Big Steve) added some lights and in doing so ended up with an AUTO DOWN WINDSHIELD! How kewl is that??!!?? When he turns off his ignition his windshield automatically does down. Waaaaa-hooooo!! He used a plug under the front valance to power his lights and that created his Auot-Down Shield. Now, of course he lives in Europe so the wiring might be a bit different, and of course I have an 8 Ball so I have thee plugs. I have posted a pic there in hopes he can identify the correct plug to short. It's also below. The plugs are to the right of the windshield motor. Guys, any thoughts here? Where are you Radio Teacher? Calling all electrical wizards!

I don't know if this helps, but I have a '08 premium, which basically means is has all the things that are options on the 8-Ball and from that picture the only plug I have under the front valance panel that is unoccupied (still do not know what it is supposed to be for) is the plug with the yellow/orange (sorry, slightly color blind) weather seal on it. That is the only source I can imagine unless the harnesses between the European and U.S. bikes are different, which due to the ability to switch the speedo/odometer between miles and kilometers I can't see them doing.

That does help. Thanks. Perhaps I'll check it with my ohm meter, although I suck at electronics. I also sent a PM to Big Steve, so here's hoping he adds his 2 cents. And perhaps Radio and others will chime in with their expertise.

I'd like to incorporate that "auto-down" windshield as well.... but what if you wanted to leave the windshield up for cleaning; while the bike was off? I guess you could clean the windshield with the bike still on...

If its any help, I believe Steves Vision is not one of the newer models and will be 100% US spec. We only got homologated Visions in the UK from 2010 but even then I don't think the wiring is any different.

Ok Evereyone, Steve posted the following on the Vision Tech Q and A Section. And according to his sign off he rides a Midnight Cherry Red 2011 Vision Tour ABS. Here is what he had to say............

George

I used the small two pronged white plug that you indicated in the bottom left. You only get power if the wind-shield is above the lowest stowage (about 1/2 inch above the lowest point) the power is activated to the LED's. But if you are jumping the plug just for the auto stow of the wind-shield then that's the plug you need.

I made the mistake of trying to see if the lights would work when the wind-shield was low, I then moved it up to get better access and the power was activated. Took a bit of working out to get there but it works and there is the auto lowering as a bonus.

So I might just give it a whirl and see what happens. If anyone else takes the plunge, let us know the results!!

Thanks Steve for taking the time to post!

Auto power down winshields are cool, but there is one caution to be considered: When the windshield is down, it is hard to access the fuse blocks, as several of our fellow Vision Riders have discovered when the fuse to the windshield blew with the shield down - and couldn't easily access the fuse to raise it again.
