Hey all,
I am looking for some guidance. Got home the other day and noticed I had an issue since my turn signal on the dash was acting goofy. Did a walk around and realized the following:
- No Trunk Running lights (NOTE: I have the Kuryakyn 4710 Run-Brake-Turn).
- Vision Trunk Trim was lit.
- All 6 tail lights were fine.
- Applied brakes...no Brake lights.
- Applied turn signal (front works fine, top of taillight would blink but both trunk lights would go on like hazards...odd).

At first I thought it was a bad bulb or fuse causing issues. Here is what I have done so far.
1) Changed both Trunk Running light bulbs (12V 5W bulbs). But neither looked bad.
2) Changed all 6 tail lights. (2 were blackened but filaments were all in tact).
3) Swapped new 20Amp fuses with TS/Brake Fuse and also Secondary Lights Fuse.
4) Swapped Relays for TS/Brake and Secondary Lights with each other (don't have new ones on hand).
5) Disconnected all trunk wires as if I were going to remove trunk.
6) Checked all wires for any obvious frays, shorts, etc. Nothing obvious to me.

Did all this in varying combinations and steps and still Brake lights or properly working turn signals

I am wondering if I have a 4710 controller issue or if I am missing something??? I welcome your thoughts but may end up taking it to the dealer this week if I can't figure it out soon. Don't like riding with no Brake Lights.

I appreciate the input. Thanks!

If you don't have a meter for checking power go get one.

So neither the hand break of the foot break makes the lights light up? The Kuryakyn part could be bad like there is power going in but not coming out.

Start by seeing if there is power going in and then put a weight on the foot break and see if there is power coming out. Go from there

I will check it out. I do have a meter...somewhere. Actually I think I know where it is.

And Correct, neither Foot nor Hand Brake are lighting up the lights.

And here is something I also did but not sure how this factors into the picture. I had 4 Red LED bulbs that are replacement for the 3157 Taillights. I decided to replace the four non-turn signal tailight bulbs with these. I found it odd that there was a right way and wrong way to insert the LED bulbs. The wrong way...no lights at all. The right way they lit up, mostly. I could never get all 4 to light up, only 3 of 4. If I swapped the one not lit with a different socket it would then light and the other wouldn't. But here is the RUB...With 3 of 4 LEDs lit up...so did the Trunk Running lights. And then both brakes (Hand or Foot) would work with the Trunk lights and the top 2 of the 6 taillights. So basically only the "Turn Signal Lights" would work as brake lights with the LEDs in. WTH! Not sure what to make of all this.

Frustrated...but appreciate the help.

I have 4710 controller on my Sport Cruiser. It did the sort of same thing, that is running lights and turn signals worked, but no brake light. I didn't realize it had stopped working until I went to the inspection station to renew my tags. In my case, I just jumpered the brake light circuit around the 4710, like it wasn't there, and I had brake lights again. Of course, I lost the "back-off" function of the brake light, but the brake light works normally, and the "back-off" still works on the turns. I meant to get a new 4710, but it's worked like this for a couple of years now.

Had the same problem with the 4710 controller when I had my Yamaha the unit went bad for some reason. Any how I swapped it and and all was fine with a new one installed.I think heat caused the failure on mine but not sure 100%

I do not why it does this...but I know how to make the KY-4710 act like this.

Turn the key to ON or ACC without starting the Vision engine. Test the blinkers. (but both trunk lights would go on like hazards)

Run the tests above and I have the same issue.

Now to correct the issue.......

Turn the key to ON, make sure it is in Neutral and "start the engine". Now do the same tests and everything is fine.

This drove me nutz one night....I never found the cause.

Had the same problem...if the key was on ACC, these lights would go nuts...with key ON and motor running...no issues! Gotta love 'em
