Got my first 500 miles on the bike in just one trip to Richmond and back home... It is an amazing machine!!! In my Kawi passing a truck on a highway was an uncomfortable experience, but on a Vision I do not even notice them. On the way home got into heavy rain and while looking for a bridge to stop and get my rain gear on had to ride for 10 min in that rain, when stopped noticed that I was almost dry With the rain gear on continued my trip no problem. Cannot wait to open up the engine a bit, was very careful with the break in period.

So the long story short, at the end of it I am not concerned with the re-sale value because I do not believe I will be selling this bike anytime soon.

Thank you all for your input and encouragement.

Don't change your story so quickly? There's plenty of maintenance to do and new colors come out every year! I saw a few posts ago, where a guy never kept his bike, longer than when it was time for a new tire. (Can't imagine that one) Just sayin'! Sounds like you get the itch and you would be the perfect person to let us know all the new intricacies of the new model as it arrives.

Congratz!! Welcome to the familia and I too had a Vulcan 900 Custom. Boy let me tell you best decision I made to buy a used 08 and then only weeks later rode to DC for Rolling Thunder 500 miles one way. The only this that was sore was my neck from all that wind in my sh*t eating grin lol. The ride back was even better as I cut through Allentown on Rt 476 awesome ride through there until it was pouring.

One thing I do recommend before fall comes is get the lowers, it will be the best 250 bucks you spend on the bike. Trust me, I have tested the colder spring morning 40 degrees only wearing a sweatshirt and heated grips on. I was not a bit cold and you know on the 900 I would've had full gear

Wow Po. I know that a 'sickle may be no more than a bag of bolts put together, an inanimate object if you will to some to be used and discarded. But to others, it becomes a personal thing, not that it is who we are, but it becomes the line we walk in life, for life. All of my motorcycles are very personal, from the two CB350s that I took to make one run, to the CB750Custom that fueled the desire more to ride. Then I had the years of "riding" behind the steering wheel, dreamng to be riding again, on an Indian no less. Grabbing the throttle on the '84 Gold Wing in 2005 started something that I could not stop. Only the '93 Gold Wing GL1500 was the gal I couldn't stay with long. She was as graceful as an M1 Tank, but she pushed me to get the Vision with nary a thought of selling or resale value. Nope. One day, when I'm long gone, someone will come across this old Vision and find a note of the adventures that this old man had. Whether doing the slalom during my daily commute, seeing the ice on the trees through the mountains, or watchin the sunrise in my rearview and seeing the sunset as I roll toward the horizon, the reader will understand this was more than a machine.

I like a rider who doesn't think of resale value, but the value of the ride.

Yeah, your probably right, oh great VamanysmilesofmilesRyder. But if he upgrades then you and I might be in the market for a lightly used bike that needs new tires, an oil change, and lastly some fork oil. We could pick it up on the down low and cheap. Between a handful of us on here, there will have to be a few salvage bikes to keep ours running. Seeing as how you don't want to get rid of yours, eventually around the 1,000,000 mile mark your gonna NEED a FEW THINGS!

The only way anybody will get to know about you and that bike, will be if you start writing it down and sticking it under the seat for someone to come across, what a find that would be! 100 years later, barn find, Victory Vision parked since rolling a Million miles, 1 of 978 bikes ever made in the very first year. Then pulling the bike apart for a frame off restoration, only to find a usb stick with many pages of stories about the bike and the travels it had made. OOOOOOWwwwwEEEEEE!!!!!!!! What a story!

You know after reaching a 100k in under 4 years, you only have to go another 36 years or less and you will make a cool Million Miles on one bike. Now that my friend is an Iron Butt Award worth achieving. Seeing as how you might be getting near retirement and if you drive more than CoolhandRetiredLuke still rolling like he's a ball in the Women's Soccer Olympic Gold Medal match, I can see where it would be very possible.

Here's a cold Dr. Pepper raised in appreciation of the challenge you have just accepted. (applaud lightly if still at work)

as certain as I sound I truly don't count my chickens before they hatch. I take one day at a time, but I never thought I'd be riding at 122,000 miles and this bike would still be riding like new. I did many wrong things as implied by some, but it seems to have come out right. Now that I mentioned it, I ought to create a scrap book of the adventures, even loosely. Like a saying goes, while most will never remember what I do, or much else about me, they will remember I rode a motorcycle.

On the way down to Richmond my butt started to hurt 1.5 hours in... This is the first time that it bothered me. Is this something I just need to get used to or should I consider an after market seat?

Surprised that it was an issue with only 1.5 hrs in the saddle. If it wasn't an issue with what you were wearing you might want to consider trying a beaded seat cover. Even the Mrs. comments on how much she likes using one.

Do you have your wallet or anything in your rear pockets when you ride?

Did not have a wallet.. The only thing I can think of is that the previous evening I went riding for 2.5 hours and at the of that I felt it too.

I couldn't grab the year of your bike Alex, and I don't know colors and years. But my guess it is an '11 or later which has a firmer seat. Having rode one once, I may have the same issue with the firmer seat. I wouldn't recommend going with an older model seat because there are some changes that they wouldn't fit. However, I believe the pans are the same, and I would recommend using the softer foam and covering with leather. The most important part for anyone of is the seat and it's worth a few dollars to get it right.

afarbman - seems at times like I am riding on two rails on either side of my A$$. Pending on where you put your feet as to whether or not it rolls your pelvis and your sitting directly on your coxis(sp). I have contemplated using some foam I have and see if it works better, but now that you brought it up...........................

When I ride my wife's much smaller Savage 650 my A$$ really bothers me and my knees are higher up so I am sittin with my knees up and pelvis rolled forward. When I ride my dirtbike with a 36 inch seat height (something like that). My A$$ rarely hurts like on my Vision, but my feet are further under me and my pelvis is rolling more forward. Very interesting.

So I wonder If I were to raise the seat height would it make a difference, seems like it would and get sitting back up straight. Right now, I feel like I'm in a Barcolounger and just hanging out, which for quite a few is quite comfortable. I have to go see now.

I prefer a firm seat. I replaced the foam in my seat with very firm high density foam.
Works for me.

Bike that I got is a 2012 Vision Tour in bronze mist color. Redoing the seat right now is a bit out of my budget. I am waiting for a backrest that is on the back order, which I am hoping that will help. I also went ahead and ordered a gel pad with sheep's skin this morning for $120. Seemed like a cheap option that hopefully can help me to get to winter. At that point I may consider to send the seat to Russell to get it re-done (as long as they can keep it as "heated seat"). Any of you got the Russell Day-long ride seat?

Pad that I got is ORTHO-DELUXE:

I'm hoping I can share my new venture in redoing my own seat.  Just the buying and treating the leather alone will save a lot.  However, buying and making tools will bring the price up to a cheap reupholster job, but it will be a premium seat that when I am done will be well worth it.  I've heard negative on the long distant rides on gel pads, but the sheep's skin may off set that.  Keep us posted on how things work out for you.
