East TN | HELP...The oil drain plug on my 2009 Vision is stripped out and I can't get the D@MN thing out....What should I do???
I've tried a screw driver to help wedge it out with no luck...Only other thing I know to do is drill the thing out, but don't want metal shavings in the motor....HELP!!!!

Mt. Vernon, WASH. | Clean the allen wrench socket in the drain plug out like you were going to do brain surgery with it, GENTLY install the allen wrench (you might take a flat file or emery board and be sure the tip edges aren't burred) and see if you can, with a small rawhide mallet or 1 lb. deadblow tap (not hit or clobber) the wrench into the plug, squirt the whole thing with KROIL or Rust Buster, go sit on the porch and drink some iced tea and let the rust buster do it's work. Then, try the plug, if that don't work, you may have to drill and use an easy-out, any drill shavings should flow out with the old oil, and like any aluminum based engine it will 'make' a small amout of metal normally (if you've ever done an oil change and cleaned the screen on a VW Beetle you'll know what I'm talking about), so unless you find a chunk with a part number on it, I wouldn't be too worried.
Then go buy one with an external bung on it. |

Fredonia, WI United States | The socket of the oil plug is deep enough to get an extraction tool in without drilling. I did this just a couple of weeks ago. Came out real easy. Make sure you have a new one on hand to replace it with right away. |

| or easier, a dab of JB weld on ur allen let it set up overnight. go get u a new plug today. ur plug will come out easy tomorrow. Allens are cheap and no drilling or hamering on ur engine case. Just throw the allen and old plug away good luck |

| I'm assuming you are talking about the threads being stripped, happened to me, Keep trying to wedge it with the the screwdriver while turning, hopefully it will eventually bite and come out....... The best repair then would be a timesert, did it on my Vision, next oil change on my 8-ball will probably need it too. Good luck! |

East TN | Sorry wasn't real clear...Either the oil pan or the drain plug itself...The threads on one of these are stripped out...I was re-installing the drain plug..Had the torque wrench and even had it set ti 15 ft-lbs...The drain plug just kept going round and round...Never tightened up....Dealer has it now, they came and picked it up....I had a new magnetic drain plug on hand so that's covered....Just can't get the original drain plug out... |

| try pumping out the used oil and changing the filter first. then, in a week or so fix it by removing the damaged hex (see fix,s discussed already). The worst thing you can do is start messing with the hex nut while you are pissed.Trust me, change the oil, enjoy the weekend, study the cure and then take action! Pride is only skin deep when you when you screwed something uo, wash the bike, go for a ride and enjoy life while you can, a damaged hex nut is nothing in the big picture! |
