Mesa, AZ United States | Don't know whether anyone is interested but I will post these pictures of the mirror mod I just completed. My 08 was not predrilled with holes in the clutch and front brake reservoirs for aftermarket mirrors or attachments like the newer visions are so I had to drill and tap them myself. It was a relatively easy task but I had some good advice from Copper State Bolt guys which helped. I put some Harley mirrors on which have a 5/16 " 24 thread stem. One could use any aftermarket mirror. These cost me $35 for both of them off Craigslist (and the guy was within a mile of my house so that was easy). Most aftermarket mirrors are a 10mm thread I believe. Whatever spins your propeller I suppose and there are hundreds of mirrors on the market.
You can see from one of the closeup pictures that there is about a half inch space between the base of the stem and the nut (which you have to have on the threads to tighten the mirror down as you never know in what position the mirror will finally tighten down as you screw it into the threaded hole. The nut allows you to get close, put in in the correct position and then tighten the nut down.
Took the bike for a spin down the highway and am very pleased with the results. Can actually see behind me now. I don't think they look too bad either. Even if they did, being able to actually see what is behind you to keep from getting hit beats the hell out of looking good in my book.

| Not trying to be a smart ass but you could have treaded more of the stem.
I did see where some one ells did this and then he put speakers in where the stock mirrors are. |

The stem bottomed out on the hole that he tapped. That's why he had to use the additional nut on top to lock it in place. |

| Question - what does that black gizmo do in the last picture? Looks like 3 circles and 3 arrows going in a circle. I have a 08 Premium and don't have that gizmo. |

Sure you do. All Victorys have that button. It cycles the display through the different modes (odometer, trip1, trip2, avg mpg, etc.) |

| Interesting - mine is on he left side and is a small handle you can get one finger on to cycle through the modes. |

Mesa, AZ United States | Reference threading the stem a little more to reduce the space between the nut and the base of the mirror, I never even thought of doing that. I suppose I could cut some of the stem off and then use a die to extend the threads. Good idea. I may or may not get around to doing that but it would be an easy fix. Thanks for the suggestion. |

Danville, CA | Looks good.. I did the same thing with some Ness Oval Mirrors. Cause of my Ness Apes, I couldn't even use the mirrors.. Now I just have to upholster the stock mirrors with black material like Marc Paynes did... I love having big wide normal like mirrors,... Maybe its just what i was used to on my prior HD's...
Either way, they give me lots of rear vision and I feel safe... |

ROCHESTER,NY | They do look good. But with a couple of different adjustment's,trial and error,the stock mirror's let me see more than any other, HD, KAW., HOND., set-up I've experienced. But nice job.Safety, and" piece of mind" are first and foremost.

Old hot rodders tip, double nut the threads with the length you want to remove (plus a teeny, teeny smidge more) sticking out, go to work with a file, or carefully with a grinder with the bolt or threaded subject in a vise using the bottom jam nut as a stop. When you are done, remove the bottom nut and carefully chamfer the end thread so the thread starts easily in it's new home, remove the other locking nut, a dab of red thread locker and there you go, no unsightly jam nut and a professional looking installation. |
