I was cruising at highway speeds when suddenly the cruise disengaged without me touching anything. I turned the switch off, then on again. The red light on the switch itself came on. I pressed the botton to engage the cruise. The Green indicator lite came on as it should, but the cruise would not take hold. I proved the front and rear brake switches, as well as the clutch switch. All were fine. I adjusted the throttle cables both to spec. Still no cruise. Then I discovered that the cruise cable had slipped out of a clamp underneath the fuel tank area. In doing so, instead of just the cable pulling the throttle and keeping it where the cruise setting demanded, the entire sheeth was moving and doing nothing. Put the cable back into the clamp, squeezed the clamp tighter, and all is good now. If you follow the cable you will find the clamp I'm talking about. When you twist the throttle, you can see the movement of the throttle lever and the cruise cable clamp is right beside that.

Thx for the info, may save many of us time t-shooting cruise failures. Never heard of this particular failure before. BTW, welcome to the party! This forum has provided me lots of valuable info since I found my "Vision".

Thanks man! I forgot to mention that by bike is a 2011 Vision Tour. I'm looking forward to sharing info with the group. I love this bike. The only thing that bugs me a bit, is that once the bike is at full operating temp, when you put it in neutral and let the clutch out, it sounds kinda clattery. When you pull the clutch back it stops so clearly it's the clutch basket. When the bike is just started or cold there is no sign of this at all. My assumption is that once the oil heats up and viscosity gets thinner, as well as the equipment tolerances changing a bit when they heat up, the issue becomes more noticable. After reading a few comments on this forum, and talking to a few Victory techs, I'm at ease with it because there have been no failures because of it. Nature of the beast I guess.

Great post Cochrane! On your last issue, I haven't had / heard any issues with my 2009 Ness Vision. But I must say, I LOVE my Victory "CLUNK" as I shift into 1st gear! <grin>

Torque compensator - having mine replaced with the mid year change under warranty.

Search this forum for it and there is a couple of threads on it.  They are right, it will not fail, but it is just plain awful sounding!!

It's the VIC version of the SUBARU idle knock or hydraulic fluid leaks on a helicopter or dry pavement under a parked H-D, don't notice any, don't operate it. Welcome to the circus!!

Ya, the 1st gear CLUNK = hidden technology to knock bugs off of the oil cooler. Hardy-har-har!

Looks like the cruise control bug bit me. 1700 miles, got caught in a rainstorm on a trip this weekend, and when we came out of it I decided to use the cruise and there was no green light or engagement. Back to the dealer we go.

I had that, the Red lite came on when turned on but no Green lite or engagement would happened.  Fuse was blown, cause by a short

(pinched) in the dash area. First time it had just sat out in the heat with a cover over it for 2 days. Guess the insulation got soft!

Riding on this last wee-end the cruise control on my 2011 Vision did the exact same thing as Cochrane's bike did...A guy riding a HD fixed it for me and I will now go and check the clamp after reading the about post.....Thanks
