Was riding home just now from my local motorcycle shop this afternoon. The Vision just died. It was a broken negative battery cable. Broke right at the connection to the battery. looking at it it appears to be about an inch to short and is stressed because of that. The positive cable has more play. I did a roadside fix by stripping the cable and attaching two heavy gauge speaker wires, that got me back to the shop and we replaced the old cable with a slightly longer Harley battery cable. The new cable is about two inches longer and is not stressed, should be a permannent fix..............Steve

It's a 2008, only has 12,700 miles on it. Not saying the cables were cheap, they look like any other motorcycle battery cable. I always wondered why though they use aluminum connectors on those nice big copper battery cabled ?? It looked to me like a stress point on a cable that was just a tad too short. I will use alot of electric grease on it now, the position puts the battery and cable in alot of exposure to the elements unlike other bikes.

Hey Steve did you get the hd cable that flexes? The kind where you could tie the cable in a knot id it was long enough. I sure hope so there the best.
Go to the hardware store and back in the little bins where the nuts and bolts are and buy two 1/4" star washers now the cables will never come loose.

I will be checking mine and adding the star washers when I put my battery tender hock up on mine. Maybe this weekend.

Can I remind US to check OUR machines regularly. With the exception of donetracy, all riders should be thoroughly familiar with their bikes. I'm mister lazy when it comes to taking care of my stuff, and my stuff seems to last longer because I don't take stuff apart like some do to do maintenance. However, I do look a lot at stuff, and pull, push or tighten when necessary. If this is a surprise with YOUR battery, it is time for a little intimacy with your baby. She just might like it and save your life. I'm just saying....

John: yes it was a flexible batter cable for replacement, and like varyder said, check it out periodicaly maybe when you check the air in your tires. The location is what it is and it's exposed to road debris and the weather more than any other motorcycle battery I've ever seen. So don't let this happen to you. I was in town and 3 miles from my shop that is run by my best friends. It could happen on a lonely road in Wyoming ..........
