I have been doing this since day 1 in '08...works great. A styrofoam cup from the gas station fountain fits perfectly upright too. The passenger's leg keeps it from falling forwars during hard breaking. Try it, it works too.

Yep, and even a bottle will fit if you have a passenger floorboard up, it stays fairly good. On a hot day though, it all gets hot quick. Use a camelbak and it works great.

I keep a bottle of water on each side while riding long distances.
The only problem is that when empty, they may fly off.

I did that ONCE!  Check your paint under the bottle...  Was able to buff out the scratches.
