Sturbridge, Mass | Hi, I did the upgrade by member Dain with the amp in the saddle bag back in February.
Last week, all sound went out, took it in- dealer has it still and states it is either the crossover or the amp itself that went.
Any ideas/suggestions. I do not want to put in another amp if it only lasts 6 months.

By referring to the Dain upgrade I assume you might be talking about this post http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=5982&pos... but to be honest I'm not positive....
What amp did you install?
What crossover?
Who did the install? You? Victory dealer? Or aftemarket stereo shop?
What exactly is "dead"? Head unit? Or amp?
Any chance you can define "dead"? Does the radio light up or turn on at all? Any lights on the amp come on? etc.....
Basically the more details you can provide in your posts the better some folks around here can try to help you out. |

San Antonio, TX | You should be using a line convertor. Connect a speaker to each of the Line Convertor inputs and you should hear the radio. That would prove you have input from the stock radio.
Let me know what you find out.

Here is the link to the upgrade that was installed by my dealer, the only change I made was that I went with all 4 Infinity speakers.

As symptoms, the sound was fine, then all of a sudden, it went dead- no sound on any setting ( radio/ipod/auz/wb)
It is at the dealer now, all connetcions look fine, but they stated
"crossover and amp seem to have failed. Recommends replace staring with crossover.
No diag available for aftermarket components. "
I wouldn't think that the amp would fail, not pushing enough power through it to fail.
I am no expert on any of the electrical stuff, so it is out of my element- only relaying information.

Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | Looks like a lot of loose wire and exposed connectors. Do you ever carry anything in the amp saddle bag? Stuff bouncing around in there combined with normal vibration of the Vision could have broken a wire at the connection point. Is it possible something touched two connectors and shorted a circuit?
The saddle bags get hot from the exhaust pipes. The fan will help if the saddle bag is empty. If you put anything in there, jacket, bandana, towel, etc., it will slow air flow. While riding, small stuff like a glove can get bounced onto the vent holes blocking air flow. The amp will get very hot in enclosed quarters even without the extra heat from the exhaust.
You might also check to see if the connections are simply dirty. The fan is sucking in road air which we all know how dirty that is. Look at your air filter after only a few hundred miles. The fan could be blowing road dust over the connectors. If they were not properly tightened then the grit could have worked its way into the contact points, especially with the extra wire moving around making the connection point even looser over time.
Here's the order I would use to troubleshoot.
1. Does the radio come on? (Is the light and display on? Is the volume turned up?)
2. Are external speakers turned on? (This is an option on the Vision stereo and can be found in the menus)
3. Is there power at the remote turn on at the amp. Check for 12volts with a voltmeter at the amp connector not the wire (this way you check for continuity at the same time).
4. Is there 12V at the main power supply at the amp? Again, at the amp connector.
5. Check ground wire continuity between the amp connector and motorcycle frame or engine.
6. Check the connections on the converter.
There are hundreds of other things that can be checked, but the above mentioned issues seem to be the most common. If 1~6 check ok, then the converter or amp might be faulty.

Rockford, IL | Sounds like the dealer has checked over and eliminated anything that could be related to the stock radio and such. Kinda surprised it took the dealer about a week to diagnose this. If they charge you anything I'd be interested in knowing, because basically all they would do is turn on the radio and maybe pull the console so they could check the plugs and such. Maybe add in some time for checking fuses and going over some wires. Probably should charge an 1.0 to 1.5 hours or so of labor....if that.
The Jensen amp you used has short circuit and overheat protection so I doubt there is a problem with it.
So based on the information so far I'm thinking you have a loose wire or a bad line converter. Since you mentioned that you aren't an expert on this type of stuff I'd recommending stopping a local car stereo shop and see what they think. They might charge you a few dollars. |

Sturbridge, Mass | I reached out to Radioteacher for consulation with the tech since it is out of my element. Radio was gracious enough to take the time and call the tech- appears it is a bad crossover and they are working it now.
I want to publicly thank Radioteacher as well as everyone who helped in this with ideas/suggestions.
I have sent a PM to Radioteach to ask him what I can do to thank him- so if anyone knows of soemthing he likes, let me know.
