| Hello new to forum and victory, 2011 vision pearl wht. i bought 4days ago.Does the dealer have to change the oil the 1st time?How about after that, does it affect the warranty? On all my other bikes i just do it myself, do all my own maintance. Does the vision come with the the tail piece to cover the space where you take off the trunk? |

I cannot help with the oil change part, my dealer included it in my purchase, but you could probably do it yourself. The main reasons for needing one after only 500 miles is to clear out the initial junk that breaks loose and so everything else on the bike can be checked over to assure that it was put together right. No warranty can be voided for doing regular services yourself, but being new to you, you may want an experienced eye checking it over that first time.
As for the trunk cover, they run around $99. It may be hard to find one in the right color though. After surfing this website, you will have a good list of dealers that carry lots of Vision inventory. Try the classified section as well. |

Pittsburgh, PA | under federal law your dealer can NOT void your warranty for you doing your Own oil changes... i even told my dealer i was going to do my 1st oil change and they said, NO problem. the one guy said they would rather use their time on bigger jobs anyways.

I think it is critical to get to know your own bike, and a good place to start is with oil changes. Once you get into the bike it's not as complicated as it may look at first. Just save each chapter to your computer and you will always have them when you need. Like someone mentioned, you can get the tail piece online. Have seen at ebay. Think I paid $60 for mine. But... If you have the passenger backrest you will have to cut notches in it to fit. I used a dremel. You can do a search for the template on this site.

| Keep a diary of your oil changes and when you buy the oil and filter take the recite and put it in a envelope for that day you need might need it.
If you go to your dealer for a panel ask him to order a ( replacement ) part its cheaper. |

If you order the panel only by the part # you pay about $99. If you order the "kit", it's considerably more. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. If you ask any more questions about it, it will only confuse more - get the replacement panel only. |

Welcome and congratulations!
First thing you might want to do is search through this site. Tons of great maintenance, modification, ride recommendations.
First purchase would be the lower wind deflectors. One of the sponsors on this site (Cycle Ops) produces a metal version (great products), but can not provide the hinges. Follow with LED trunk light mod (search for write up by SongFan). |

san antonio, tx | Lower wind deflectors are very helpful in the heat. The drivers backrest is fantastic, I've never used one before but now I'll always have one. The only problem with it is if you're riding two up, it pretty much has to be taken off since it takes up a lot of room for the passenger.
The Ipod cord is great, but at highway speeds, the sound quality of the stereo pretty much sucks. Yeah, you can hear it, and even sing along to the songs, but again the quality sucks. I got the scala rider bluetooth setup and a bigger memory card for my Blackberry. Great stereo music in my helmet now. |

Sure they do a oil change and then what. They check to see if the clutch is working right? Gee didn't you just ride it in. There going to check the brakes? Didn't you just stop in front of the door. There going to check the throttle for free play. There not going to check the air in the tires cause there hot so that wouldn't do any good.
Now the biggie there going to check the belt alinement? I dough it very much. There are no bolts to check cause if you put a wrench on them you distort the torque settings.
Now give them two or three hundred dollars. What a screw job these motorcycle company's do making us pay to see if they built it correct. |

Why would I change it myself at that price?
Look in your owner's manual to see what the mechanic checks and retorques for the first oil change.
It's good piece of mind.
Plus it gives me an excuse to check out the showroom bikes and maybe even ride one.
What would I buy?

| If you are out of warranty, do it yourself if you want. Any vehicle or bike I have owned, always had the dealer do them while under warranty. If there is ever an "issue" that requires warranty coverage remotely connected to the oil, filter, etc., you will have a better chance getting coverage by the manufacturer in a dispute. If a warranty repair is large $$$$, you can bet the manufacturer will try to weasel out of covering something if they can. You can produce all the receipts you want for your DIY work but they will question your capabilities on performing the work to "factory specifications". Just my 2 cents. |
