I have an O8 Vision that's been KevinX-ed.  I was thinking about taking it to Lloyds for the 116 Big Bore Kit http://www.lloydz.com/store/item_view.asp?estore_itemid=1000088  Are there any downsides to this mod that I should know about?  So far all that I've heard has been good.

Thanks ED

My buddy did it and I rode it yesterday. Definately about 10%+ more pop on the throttle than just cams. He got 135 hp, 131 tqe with cams and dyno.. I am gonna do it on my 2012 I have on order..

I had been kicking this around for a while myself. After talking with Lloyd a few months ago, he told me it would run around $3.5- $4k for the kit with installation done by him. I am not sure another 20HP is worth $4k installed. I think the kit itself was almost $2K.

PLEASE DON'T QUOTE ME ON MY NUMBERS. It was about 5 months ago, it may have changed, or I may be losing my mind (or a combination of all of those).

That $4k or under must only be the BASE components. I got a quote, listed out part by part and this includes some head work which is "recommended" by Lloyd and the total was roughly $4400 with an additional $1800+ in labor. On top of all that...would either be round trip shipping or rider it up there and stay until complete .... so ballpark I figure would be somewhere in the $8k range! This would be a bit cheaper if some of the parts were already had such as intake plate, power commander or upgraded ECU or the PC-V. Lastly, I was told that my current exhaust (Honkers) are to open for this big of a build and to upgrade to a better exhaust such as D&D.

Sorry... dollar for dollar, I'll just stay with cams (which I've yet to be able to schedule) on my wish list.

Just passing the info that I was presented... other quotes may be different but not sure why/how.

Think I'll stick with the cams when someone in my area can do them.

Michael, the 4K took into account my setup (VFC3, cams, S1L1 pipes and intake plate), so it was just the base cost of the kit w/install.

For those curious; here is the breakdown coming straight from Lloydz shop:

116" for 2010 Vision

$1495.00    116" Big Bore Kit (includes the high compression pistons, head and base gaskets.
$795.00      3 Angle Valve Job with Bowls & Seats Blended (highly recommended)
$495.00      Lloydz High Performance VM1-HP Cams
$117.21      High Performance Springs
$77.00        Idle Air Valve
$369.95      Power Commander V (requires someone to build the map on a dyno)
$84.95        Vision Intake Plate (or we may have a new high performance intake out for the Visions for this build but Im not sure how much it will cost yet)
$395.00     Variable Pressure Plate Clutch Assembly (allows you to use the lighter spring without losing the hold)
$225.00      Reprogrammed ECU (with rev limiter extend to 6400 rpm and timing change in new map)
$60-150     Incidentals, i.e.  oil, filter, spark plugs..etc.
$200.00      Dyno, Tune and Custom Map

Ive also included some mild headwork per Lloyd's recommendation. We do it on all of our builds. All headwork includes disassembly and cleaning (degreasing). The ports and chambers get glass beaded to remove all carbon. Once job is complete the mating surfaces get milled or re-surfaced for straightness and then reassembled. By doing the headwork they are preventing leaky valves and possible deterioration, in extreme cases, as well as improving the combustion and creating more power efficiency. We find that it increases the airflow and sealing.  In essence, they are ensuring longetivity and full optimization of the big bore.  If we were doing the labor we would charge you about 21 hours at $90/hr. This includes the 500 break-in miles needed to be put on the engine under 3000 RPM before doing a full dyno.

agreed that's pretty high for about 20HP ......you can get from 20 to 40 hp boost with Lloydz Nitrous system for less than $400

cheers!

much appreciated info.  I didn't know it was that expensive.  Makes it a much more difficult decision...hmm.....
