Subject: Stereo Bluetooth

First some background then (hopefully) a simple question...

I recently purchased a StreetPilot 2820 and set it up on my Vision. I've managed to pair my phone and headset with the unit using the Bluetooth capability. My only quibble with the set-up is that the MP3 music when played to the headset from the GPS is played in Mono instead of Stereo. If I wire the headset to the audio out port of the GPS it plays stereo.

If I want to get stereo sound using the Bluetooth capability would a stereo bluetooth dongle (link below) solve my problem?

On the surface it seems like it would be a simple solution, but normally when it's this simple (especially when it comes to electronics) it's not...

Thanks all in advance for your feedback.

Check your current Bluethooth headset and the GPS bluetooth capability. Both must be capable of stereo bluetooth for it to work. Just because your GPS puts out stereo when using wired phones has nothing to do with it's bluetooth output. If your phone plays stereo music thru your headset I would suspect the GPS unit lacks the stereo bluetooth capability. Check your manuals and see if the GPS and headset both have A2DP bluetooth capability.

PS Almost forgot. Here in Florida it is ILLEGAL to use earphones (one ear phone is ok so I am told) in both ears. I know as I was recently stopped for just that. Speakers in your helmet are ok. But a headset using both ears is illegal!! Check your state statutes.

I think MaddMax2u missed your point, so I'll give it a shot. You are correct - the 2820 does NOT stream Bluetooth in stereo, it is only capable of mono bluetooth due to its older bluetooth profile (the newer Zumo units have A2DP which is stereo bluetooth). To answer your question - yes, if you connect a stereo BT dongle to the stereo line out of the 2820, it will stream that signal in stereo to your headsets if they are also stereo Bluetooth. The only thing to watch out for is to be sure that the Bluetooth profile of your headset is compatible with the Bluetooth dongle you choose and that they will pair up.
