Rhode Island | I have a buddy that is retiring in 2 weeks and is considering a move half way between RI & (daughter) in Florida so he asked me to plan a ride so he can look around while we get some riding in. I usually take a week to ride in August so twist my arm, I may have to head towards some of the best roads in the east. So if you only had 5 days to ride in these areas what roads would you pick?

New Bohemia, Va | I don't know where to begin. Some will highly suggest the Dragon out at Deals Gap, but there is plenty of good roads like RT522 RT15, RT5, RT10. There are roads around the valley like the Blue Ridge Parkway or Skyline Drive. Do you want to see the beach, the mountains, historical points like Natural Bridge, the world is your oyster. |

Rhode Island | We will be staying inland, so mountains and valleys since they usually have the best riding and scenery. So far the only plan is we will take rt81 into Roanoke from there it is wide open. I looked at the Blue Ridge Pkw and Skyline Dr; would you ride the entire length or are there only sections you recommend? I will check out the routes Cap'n Nemo listed; thanks, these are the type of roads that I would never have know about.

New Bohemia, Va | If you have time, only if you have time, the BRP and SD are great roads with unbelieveable vistas, but the speed limit for the most part is 35mph, the whole way. I forget the price but the cost covers several days of travel, even if you leave the parkway and return, info can be found on the web. Think about taking RT11, but you'll find a lot of stops in the little towns along the way, but you'll see some interesting things and make fairly good time. I81 is a race track, so watch yourself, people are in a hurry and they will take you out in their rush.
A good thing to do is google your route that you think is best for you and you're itenerary and then ask suggestion based off of that, that's were you'll get your best input. |

Rhode Island | Sounds like the BRP is in, Rt11 sounds interesting since he is looking for areas that are interesting to relocate to. Your advice to map out a rough route sounds good, I will do that tonight. I'm thinking south on the BRP maybe use Helen, GA as a turn around point then back north along the western side on NC...

Cabot Arkansas | The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the most scenic roads in the US, speed limit is 35 to 45 mph .There is No Charge to ride the BRP.Skyline Drive is also a great ride with a speed limit of 35 the entire ride and a Charge of $10 per motorcycle.We rode the entire lenght of both the BRP and SD two years ago and loved them so much that we are going to do them again this May.If I could only ride one it would be the BRP.You might as well do the Smokies ride too and Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohola Skyway you can easily ride ALL in 3 days with lots of stopping for the overlooks and vista's. |

Springfield, TN | If you are going as far as Helen, GA check out the Tail of the Dragon web site and look up the info for the "6 Gaps ride" some great roads in N. GA! If you're already at Helen you should consider going to Dahlonega, GA and eat at the Smith House. Just outside of Helen is the Unicoi State park a reasonable place to stay and eat too. Hiway 28 runs SE from the Dragon all the way to SC... another great ride. www.tailofthedragon.com has a ton of info on rides in the Western NC, East TN, and N. GA area! Truth is there are great roads anywhere near the mountains on either side... it's warmer and the riding season is longer the farther south you go. |
