I just bought a set of these for my 2011 VV. I thought it would be an easy mod but when I went to take off the existing stock tips by removing the 3 bolts, only the outer chrome cover came off. The internal black piece looks like it is one long solid unit. What am I missing???

Tell us more. Is this a new bike with stock mufflers? Or could it have aftermarket mufflers? Maybe the chrome just seperated from the rest. The stock tips pressfit on the mufflers, then bolt down with the three bolts. Give it a few twists.

Its a new 2011 that comes standard with stage 1. You can take the chrome tip cover off by removing the 3 bolts, the center guts (black pipe) is part of the exhaust from what it looks like.

Since they made the transmission quieter on the 2011's and made the exhaust a little louder and throatier, I wonder if that changed the entire stock muffler setup?  The only exhausts prior to '11 that you couldn't change the tips out on was the Stage 1/Level 2 units that were all one piece.  Riverdawg, call your dealer and ask if the Gatling Tips will fit on a stock 2011.  If so, you are missing something.

Did you give it a good tug? I had the black angled center piece of the tip separate on my one side.

To my surprise when I looked at it again, the center of the stock exhaust tip has to spot welds on it attaching to the pipe. WTH is that all about

Well, just got around to fitting new MrWizard tips and what a pain in the ass it is breaking the welds, perhaps if i had the right tools......

For those unsure about the 2011 exhausts:

Wow Peter!  I thought they were just a couple of little tack welds.  How did you break those?

Tips look great!

Dont tell anyone (I dont have a dremmel) but I spent rather a long time at them with a file..........then and hammer..........then levered it and away it comes. Actually very cleanly as it turned out.
