Vineland, NJ United States | I got an oil temp dipstick for Christmas. Just curious from those that have one, what do you see as the normal operating range? At what oil temp should I start to get nervous? Ed 2008 Vision Tour Premium |

Memphis | 190-210 on a normal day, going down the road. Mine has gone as high as 250 on a really hot summer day, stuck in traffic. Not sure what the danger zone is. Probably over 260? |

Vineland, NJ United States | thanks! I also found some other posts that look like 200 to 225 with occassional spikes up to 250 on hot days while in traffic. |

Willmar, MN | Mine is usually about 200 - 210 also. I've seen it up to 250 but it cools down pretty fast once you can get moving and get some air flow. |

New Bohemia, Va | Rest assure, you will not "cook" your vic motor, its design will prevent this.
I have the dipstick gage and it gives me a good point of reference, seeing mine go all the way up to 300 more than once in idling, slow moving traffic. It is only giving you the oil temp and not your actual engine tempature. Mine runs from 180 - 220 most of the time, depending on the season and how I'm running. |

Don't get nervous about the oil. The premium motorcycle oils are formulated & tested for very high temperatures and for long periods of time. Short times like getting stuck in traffic on a summer day can be handled by the oil with no problem. |
