I was not happy with the sound of the stage 1 or stage 2 exhaust systems from Victory and I thought that they were both way too expensive for what you got...so I consulted with a master mechanic friend of mine from UTI and he agreed to help me with my exhaust. What did we do? Really quite simple...we took a plasma welder and literally cut out the entire insides of the stock exhaust up to the cat converter...thats it! Now the sound of the exhaust is incredible...very low and rumbly without being too loud and obnoxious. I was most concerned about the new fuel and air mixture (I also added a new high flow air filter) but I only get slight popping on deceleration when the bike is cold...after 10 minutes or so the stock ECM computer self adjusted everything and it feels faster, sounds waaaaay better, and does not look like a puney moped exhaust anymore. I plan on taking some pics this week and hopefully posting a YouTube video as well if I can figure out how to do so. I am telling you guys....dont waste your money on all of these other BS and expensive exhaust mods out there. I have had not 1,2,3 but over 10 Harley riders comment on how great my exhaust sounds and ALL of them had their pipes done by either Vance and Hines, Hard Krome, etc

I also added a few red LED accents along with a power windshield with Batman logo, new stereo from Cycle Sounds, and a custom fabricated passenger backrest since Victory no longer offers one for the Vision 8-Ball

Some pics for now...video of exhaust later I hope

I'd recommend you take the bike to your Vic dealer and have them throw it on the computer to see just how far off your fuel/air mix really is. From your description the motor is running lean on throttle. Just removing the pipe internals would eliminate back pressure which in itself isn't terrible, but by installing the high flow filter with the gutting of the pipes and without reprogramming is a no no. Your bike but I'd hate to see you toast the motor on your nice looking bike.

Guys, I am not getting any abnormal readings from my mods...the occassional pop on decel and occassional pop on accel all when bike is cold...after warmed up I hear nothing but pure bliss from these pipes. I went riding today (gotta love Cali weather) with a froiend of mine who has a HS Sportster 1200 with Vance and Hines pipes (2010 model) and he tells me that my bike sounds way better than his...but both of them together (his a bit higher pitch than mine) sound great...like a biker orchestra. I hope to have time to make the vids tomorrow and will take a few pics of the inner pipes as well if my camera can catch the light just right. As you can see all of the outter heat shields are OEM and stock still. My friend who helped me with the mods did the same thing to his 2008 Vision and he travels cross country often and already has almost 40k miles on his bike and NO problems....!

Gutted mufflers sound to much like gutted mufflers. All noise without the tone quality. Then again it ain't my bike, and if you like it. Then it's all you need

I thought it sounded pretty good, although I would like to hear it outside the garage. All sound different inside a building. I would like to hear it going down the road.

Since your going with the Batman theme for your bike, I think it would look very good with the lights darkened!! Somebody else on here tinted there lights, and it looked very good!!

That would be my next thing if I had your bike.

Yeah I was offered FREE tinting of my lights from a vendor of mine that I work with however in the interest of SAFETY and being SEEN I have opted to not do anything that might hinder me being seen by "da cages" !

I will video the bike outside of the garage this weekend and ask my friend to record a drive-by...kinda like Tom Cruise did in Top Gun...oh wait...that was a Fly-By. Maybe I can create the same BOOM that he did ?!?

Glenster, you need to have the bike put on a computer just to see where you're at, BUT as I said it is your bike so do as you please.
For others tempted to remove baffles from pipes a couple things you should know. Baffles create back pressure, this in turn DICTATES the amount of fuel/air drawn into the cylinders, less backpressure greater charge. As previously stated with no increase in airflow this isn't a huge issue, but still an issue. Add a high flow air system and now you've leaned your motor down big time.
Now some folks depend upon a pop, or other related sounds from the motor to tell them when they've screwed up, but the reality is you can fry the motor very quickly without any obvious indicators like popping. Other indicators might be a hesitation or increased throttle response, each indicating a different condition. And then their is the rpm and/or throttle position issue to consider, aka are you running lean in the mid range or high end? Pop on decel can and will only tell you what you are doing "off" throttle, not what you are doing to the motor on throttle.
Now in the old days of leaded fuel we'd have simply pulled a plug or two to see what they looked like. Unfortunately with unleaded fuel there really aren't enough impurities so as to get a good reading from a plug, but if you are so inclined to attempt a plug reading you need to be on throttle and kill the motor thus coasting to a stop to get any type of useful reading. Remember your bikes computer will compensate for SMALL variances, not large but idling will almost always produce a plug reading that looks appropriate.
Now I almost always get someone who tells me that drag bikes run straight pipes, and some do. But those motors are tuned for a specified rpm and fuel/air mix that corresponds thus getting max acceleration for a quick pass. Listen to them in the staging area and they pop and fart like there is no tomorrow, thus the constant rev of the throttle.
Personally I think the old remove the baffle trick will get you nothing but the attention of the police, as it is breaking the law in every state in the union but to each his own. Some folks like loud pipes even if everyone who rides eventually pays the price for this loud noise. For example the Fed has just encourage the states to increase the number of "motorcycle ONLY" safety check points. Caught without baffles will get you a ticket, but worse will get your ride impounded, so just stay informed and decide which risks are worth taking.
There is really ONLY a single question you need to ask yourself when it comes to gutting pipes; If one could safetly and efficiently run their high tech motor without baffles why would so many factory and aftermarket companies spend so much money to R&D their products?............. Just sayin

Has anyone actually removed the honeycombed baffle/cat in the head pipes? When I first saw one on my right exhaust pipe after removing my S1L1 I was suprised at how dense it was. I heard from a friend that they are almost a foot long. (never seen one removed and don't plan on removing mine) I went with the cherry bombs w/no noticeable diff. in perf. (Checking my plugs this eve. to be on the safe side)

My belief is that the Victory engineers (in their infinite wisdom) put those baffles/cats in the head pipes to create the minimum amount of backpressure needed for the freedom motor which makes the muffler design less complicated. The mufflers, be it the S1L1, S1L2, or any other muffler merely shape the sound based on their internal design. Otherwise, why would they design the S1L2 with a removable baffle. Only a post mod dyno run is going to settle the debate.
