i could use a little info on the reception of the fm radio, have an 08 vision tour. basiclly the reception is horrible and i live in the Central New Jersey area where radio signals are very good. I took the front shield off and checked all connections, any way i can ohm out the antenna and see if its no good? and what would be a good reading?

have you pulled up the console to make sure the antenna is plugged in good? Also, there is the long tube that runs along the front fairing down that is part of the antenna get-up, I just don't know what for. You'll see when you are up front with the part that is mounted to the front, trace the wire back and you'll see it split, one wire going back to the radio, the other the tube antenna and it just lays where it is. Mine got broke the last time in was in the shop but it seems to be laying in such a way the reception is good, but has a tendancy to loose reception more now. But if you are close the stations and the reception is poor, my guess is the plug on the radio is not seated well.

Check your wire going to the antenna piece mounted to the shield. Found mine pinched in 2 internally so I had to cut it and splice it for it to work again. Radio reception is not our bikes' forte. The antenna piece that runs down the inside of the fairing is for the weather band.

Jeff you are right. There is a big difference in your radio and my radio reception. I finely went to XM and I'm not looking back! I have it hooked up to my Zumo GPS

Radio guys I just eliminated my stock antenna. I had this hog tunes one around from a harley and went for it. The hog tunes has a ground wire a power wire and the antenna plug in. That frat sticker that is attached to the windshield valance is the antenna along with a hard plastic wire that runs down the left side when looking at the bike. If you lay on the ground and look you can see it kinda like a gas over flow but not. If you look up the antenna on hog tunes you'll see its hard to hide. Dakota digital would have been way better. Went for a ride in the country and now I can get some of the weaker station. It was a hour to get rid of and install. I do have photos but can put them in here.
It was worth the effort.

Has your radio been flashed? Had mine flashed a couple months ago and now it's much better.

what do you mean by "flashed" I have a 2008 Vision and I've never done anything with the radio. Should I?

The software has been upgraded a few times since 2008. Ask your dealer to reflash your radio software.

There was also a thread about a year ago where the manufacturer of the stereo was willing to swap our old units for one of the newer design for like $200 or something. I don't know how many took advantage or how well it worked for them. It's an option, though.
