I'm surprised there isn't more talk about this. I've had to replace a few of these this year. All were on 2008's except one 2009 Jackpot.
I had a gentleman in today getting cams. He was compaining of popping. Well no wonder! The damn boot was completely seperated from the aluminum plate (they should be one sealed together piece). Talk about a massive air leak.
Don't forget to check this out on your bike. Thats why I always keep one in stock!

Ok, I would assume this goes between the air box and throttle bodies? How easy or hard is it to check?

It goes under the tb's and connects to the engine heads. Very easy to check, just need a flashlight and maybe a screwdriver to prod it with.

Seems to be a lot of corosion. Is there a lot of ethanol added gasoline being used in your region? We have aluminum that looks that way on the Gulf coast, most of it is from salt infused air.

I'm pretty sure it was just a bad batch from the supplier. Poorly made and not bonded to the aluminum well enough.

Thanks for catching this Rylan. I was the lucky Vision owner who had Rylan perform surgery on my bike. I highly recommend Rylan for service on your investment. Being somewhat of a wrench of ill repute, I couldn't help but observe how organized, focused, and professional this technician really is.
It was absolutely worth the 500 mile round trip. Make the trip to The Vic Shop and leave happy.

I looked at mine this evening, and with over 57000 miles, the spacer and the boots look near new condition. I see none of that white corrosion on mine. And my boots look black instead of the gray color of those. I wonder why the difference.

Wonder if the bad ones were 2008 models that were made in 2007?

I haven't looked since this thread popped up, but I have looked. I've not seen anything that looks out of the ordinary on mine. It sounds like it is not wide spread, but keep in mind it may have been exposure that was overlooked that began the corrosion. The condition of storage and shipping could have triggered this, or it may have been the manufacturer of them using substandard material as suspected. The potential of corrosion may not be evident until well after the build date, hopefully anyone with this issue will work with the dealer for replacement. Chances are, if mine was to go I would get told "tough luck dude"

Not every 08 I see is like this. Maybe every third one. On Allens bike the boot looked fine at first glance. But because of his complaints I started prodding the top of the boot with a screwdriver. Lo and behold even thought it looked fine at first glance I could easily flip down the top edge to expose the alum plate underneath. Only when I went to remove it did it fall completely apart.
Kinda funny that I brought a boot to the AVR, and of all the bikes I did that weekend not one of them needed it. But I've had several others back at my shop that did. Go figure...
Its worth more than a quick glance though.

The white corrosion on spacer plate looks like a chemical contract of some type. Some cleaners used have a high ph. So if a cleaner is used to clean the bike or motor and does not get washed off, the cleaner or chemical could cause the corrosion and attack the soft boot.

Mine was the bike in the picture. I never used any chemical other than very diluted carwash. That boot is so hidden it really never got anything on it except perhaps a little of water. Don't really wash it that much anyhow...just gets dirty again. I think the point Rylan was trying to make is that even though the boot looks intact, it may not be. Just a thought. All the same, it shouldn't have crapped out in just 2 years. Allen

All I can say is I am eternally grateful Rylan did it and not me. If you are a brain surgeon it should be no problem. heh-heh

I was under the impression that our bikes begin to pop when the exhaust is changed. At least thats how it began with my 08. If these boots are "the cause" why aren't our bikes popping with the stock pipes? I agree these failing parts need to be addressed, just wondering is all..

That boot is going to be there no matter what as it is the interface between the throttle body and the manifold. Being a Harley owner also, the fact that Victory does not have bolt on intakes blows my mind. It makes it SO much more difficult to get to that boot. I could not believe it when Rylan had that area exposed, and there they were, the intakes, part of the cylinder head. Unbelievable.
