I've got a friend at work that rides a Wing that used to rag me a little on getting the funny looking bike, my Vision. I was okay with him while I was riding the classic Wing and we could chat a lot about riding, but it became a who has the better bike, and of course the Wing was always better by some measure.

He has developed rules about riding that he lives by. He'll ride in the rain but won't ride to work if it raining when he leaves the house. It's ok to him if it is cloudy and it might rain on the way or on the way home, just not when it is raining as he leaves. I'd rag him some on the raining thing and not riding when I've come in during a down pour. His response is "when you have ridden a million miles in all kinds of weather it doesn't have the thrill anymore to ride in the rain." I just hope I don't get that way.

But on the thought at reaching a million miles in my lifetime, at my current rate at 30,000 miles a year I'll be close to 80 years old or older before I reach that mark, 30 years from now. I wonder how many Visions I can go through and I wonder what a Vision will look like in 30 years. It isn't hard to guess what an HD will look like, but I expect a few changes in the Vision.

But, if you play the stocks it might be good to invest in Dunlop, Shell, and SuperTech.

Just thinking....

Just getting a new front tire put on today! Dunlop Elite 3's again!! Over 15,000 miles on it, no cupping at all and still has some tread left in it!! handles great in all types of highway pavement and gravel I have encountered. Perhaps I should invest in Dunlop!!!

I haven't found this "cupping" to be an issue in all the dunlop e3's I've ran on the Vision and on my wing which were bias. It seemed both did it the same way also, and they both got the max rated wear out of them. I have a tendancy to go a little beyond the wear bars but never have experienced problems in doing so. But what do I know, I'm just a dumb country boy who likes to ride a motorcicle.

1mill is a bunch so I hear but never quite seems it when you ride it. Your averaging 30k or so a year currently, but you'll likely have a few 50 or even 60k years at some point in the future. You have to retire at some point and then the time is all yours, plan wisely. 30 years at 30k will get you there for sure though.
Had a sporty some years back and put 127k on it in just 2 years. Never occured to me how many miles I had ridden until it was stolen and the insurance company needed to come up with a value. When you ride every day it adds up quickly. Wish I could ride as much all year as I do from June thru August, but then again it could get rather expensive, lol...
As to your GW buddy? Well I came to the realization many years ago that there are all types of riders with all types of ideas on how to ride, when to ride and what to ride. I concluded that the guy who spends 2 hours polishing his bike so he can ride it 3 miles to the dealership to drink coffee and shoot the breeze, is just as much a rider as I. Hell he probably gets just as much enjoyment as well, just different practices but both our knees are in the breeze.
So iffin your goal is the million mile mark, just remember the road is long, be cautious and make smart decisions. A 5 minute stop can add 100k to your overall miles, and not taking it could be the end of your goal. I hope you'll eventually get there..... ride safe......T

Chris - QUALITY - not QUANTITY

100,000 BC/PAC Northwest kilometers is worth more than a million miles ANYWHERE else.....and your pals idea of riding in the rain? He is SPOT on !!!!

These things I know....

Don, I'll say in defense of myself, every mile is a quality mile. I was just telling the wife tonight that it was a bad idea to ride to California because now all I want to do is ride. It's a sickness...

Chris - a "sickness" that could end in divorce. And I would hate to see you separated from your bike....

I'm kinda the same way about the rain. If I can get where I'm going without getting rained on I'll ride. Don't care about getting wet on the way home.

Thanks for the reminder. I can say that it is not that way and it will never be that way. But I did admit to her that it is hard to get all that riding out of me at the moment. She is actually making a dramatic job change from overnight to quiting that job to get one just during the week. The last couple of years we have been able to ride together on many weekends. This year, maybe once and she misses that.

However, today I did something that I don't normally do and that is go out for a "weekend" ride. Region 2000 had the Vic truck and demo rides so I ride 2 hours to take a 20 minute ride on 2 different motorcycles and then ride home. I got to meet BLK08 and Prime Power today, great guys and wish we could have chatted longer. VaParadox was there with the Catlin gang. Good seeing everyone.

The two bikes I rode was the Vegas 8-Ball and the Vision 8-Ball. Though they had the Tour Premium white with the accents, I only wanted to ride the Vision 8-Ball. The first ride the Vision8 was taken, so I scooted on the Vegas8 and found it to be its normally exciting self. That would be my scoot for work and to get a pop or a burger. It did have some transmission whining, if that is the approapriate way to discribe it. More like a singing noise, but I could tune it out in no time. When we got back from that ride I couldn't get to the Vision8 fast enough and the guy who was taking it for a spin was much bigger than I. He had rode one before but it had been a while and he was getting tired of his V-Star, so I was very cordial with him even though I wanted to kick him in the shins.

I waited patiently for that run and then had my helmet on the bike before he even got off it. In fact he nearly kicked it off when he got off the bike. All I can say is I'm mesmorized by the this bike. Even though I was following the pack I was in my own little world and could have just kept rolling. The funny thing is, everyone that rides this bike wishes it had all the "stuff" and continues to talk about the "stuff". Too me, the bike is perfect just as it is and my only "upgrade" besides anything on the motor would be the iPod connection with the power sound system. But I would do fine without it. The bike sits perfect and you sink down into the seat with the lower windshield you feel like you're in a cockpit ready for flight. I was surprised how quiet it is compared to my rumbling Vision, but thought the stage 1 level 1 would have been louder. There again, that okay, but that would be an upgrade to make it bungle in the jungle when the throttle was twisted. The tranny was tighter than the '08 or so it seemed, and it does "clunk" but not as pronounced as mine. Overall, if I had the where withals today, the bike would have been mine without looking back and saying goodbye to the Bentley.

But with that, I hopped on the Bently after talking with Steve the truck driver (lucky dog) and was back home in very familiar territory. The Bentley is the best but the wife is the bestie of my life. I hope that we can together put some miles on before the year is out. I'm back to reality and back to normal after the ride to Forest and back. I'm going to take those miles that keep calling my name everday and save them for later. I got to do some grocery shopping so I'll be jeepin' the rest of the day.

Y'all have a great day!
