Not all Victory engineering is perfect. Had to stop at a roadside stand for some corn today. (love fresh sweet corn) Wasn't the ideal parking spot so I thought I'd be smart and throw on the hazards. How surprised was I when it dawned on me that they only work with the key on. How stupid and worthless is that? I'm surprised they don't have the starter button wired so it'll only work when the engine is running.

Now I'm crushed, my perfect ride ain't so perfect.

Hazard lights work with the key in the accesory postion. I know you can remove the key then I don't know if the key is needed to turn the ignition switch to the on pos. or not though.

From Owners Manual - Looks like can be in ACC for Hazards (and a bunch of other stuff), and that the key can be removed in the ACC Position.
===============
ACC
Power is supplied to accessory circuits,
radio, instruments (fuel gauge, etc.), brake
light, turn signals (2008 only) windshield
motor, horn, and hazard (flasher) circuit.
Headlamp and tail lamps are OFF, and turn
signals inactive (2009-2010 models - the
ECM must be powered up for turn signal
operation). The key can be removed. Use
ACC position whenever engine does not
need to be running to reduce electrical load
and conserve battery power.

And to rain on your parade even more, "love fresh sweet corn" is not in season here yet. Your "fresh" corn was probably picked in CA, FL or South America and shipped here. As you ride along do you look at the corn along side of the road? They don't have ears growing yet plus lots of it is behind schedule from all the dryness.

And to dry up that rain you might like to know that locally grown sweet corn (IL/WI state line area) has been available now for almost 2 weeks!  Sweet corn is usually picked in mid July (again, in the IL/WI state line area at least) and if you want the freshest for grilling or roasting just go to a roadside farm stand (I get mine from Stade Farms of Spring Grove, IL) and enjoy!

Interesting about the flashers. I think it's kind of a good Idea to require the key. Every car I've ever seen stranded on the side of the road that the owner left the flashers on for "safety" purposes ended up with a dead battery in addition to whatever problem caused them to be stranded in the first place. Once the battery is dead the car is still setting there without flashers anyway. I say pull off the road if you can and skip the flashers.

Interesting about the sweet corn, in central Indiana (same growing season as central new york) the local corn is in full swing at the county fairs and the feed corn in the fields already has brown silk on it. I love fresh sweet corn!!!!!!!!

And to think you could have been in a cage, doing 5mpg (his quote, not mine). I dare you to look at the optimistic side of it and see if there is something that happened lightly positive that would have not happened in the cage! You could have smiled at the opportunity that you were on a bike instead of a cage and comfortable. Why be pissed, when most things can make a laughing memory. Sometimes I just wonder about folks.

I got stuck in I-240 traffic, the other day, First a slow down from an accident on the other side of the road, then a accident on my side, taking it down from 3 lanes to one shoulder. And a DARK CLOUD looming, I knew it was coming and there was not a thing I could do, except empty the pockets. Then I got to walk into LOWES, wet, like an old shaggy dog. However, my socks weren't wet.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate Indy experience. It really isn't as bad as many like to say. Accidents of course will cause a backup on a country road, let alone a four lane interstate at rush hour.

I make the commute down town daily on I70 and from twenty miles east in the suburbs and almost every day I can make it in 25 minutes morning and evening rush hours.

And if you do get stuck, while you are idling along you can be thinking of that great Indiana sweet corn that's waiting for you down the road at the next produce stand! ;-)

I spent 4 weeks in Indy one winter and that was the most intense place to drive. The speed limit was 55, but don't you dare run under 70 or they would push you out of the way. The only other place worse is Chicago, anywhere. But with any major city, don't travel through them at rush hour if you want to make time. It is almost worth going around the city even it was to take more time so you can enjoy the ride/drive more.

Back on topic: I don't think the expectations of the emergency flashers is to run them for a great length, auto or bike, but to make aware of the immediate situation to others. It would be best, and I'm reminding myself to have some sort of beacon or flares in your bikes, which works better than your flashers on blind curves. Just tossing out a few nuggets, and since Vic's traditionally don't leave many of us stranded, this becomes one of those topics that says "it sucked to be you". But we are all can fall into this situation, but you if you don't ever use the flares or lights, you can always be prepared to help out a Harley, or other riders in a misfortune.

Oh, and if you want the best sweet corn, RT522 west of Winchester, just this side of the West Virginia border. I think it is called Shenandoah Market. You'll be eating it in the parking lot raw....

Contrare! Corn was indeed fresh. Right out of the field next to the shed. They usually start 1st of August but are a couple weeks early this year.
