In the current installment of The Gadget Guru Vision Blog, I attempted to address a common question that many of us have received, but have difficulty answering. Why do you ride a bike? What does it feel like?

I'm sure we all know there is no simple answer. But today, I made my best attempt to probe deep into my mind to describe a feeling that we as riders know too well, but cannot explain to others.

This story starts in one direction, then gets to the point. Please be patient and take a read. Like my other posts, it's written in blog/diary style and as always I welcome all comments.

My question to you is: Is my description accurate? You be the judge.

To save you from scrolling to through my never ending story, here's the link directly to this post:

Please post comments here.

Thanks,

Hey Tex. I used to be a Texan myself and one day will take the journey to catch up with you guys. Until then, did I give an accurate description?

Las Vegas, Nevada USA baby!
Andy,
I think I replied on another post, I hope you got it my friend.

Speaking of putting on the miles, I sat up last night with mapquest planning out a list of Iron Butt rides to make this year.

From Las Vegas to Manteca, CA and back is over 1000 miles.
Las Vegas to Winnemucca, NV and back is just over 1000 miles.
From Las Vegas to Wells, NV and connect with Salt Lake City, UT and back to 'Vegas is over 1000 miles.
Las Vegas to Grants, New Mexico and back = over 1000 miles.

And so forth. Yeah, I'm gonna have fun this summer. I haven't even got mapping out to COLORADO yet! And those are just the Saddle Sore 1000's. What about the BunBurner 1500's? The SaddleSore 2000's, 3000's, and 5000's? HMMMMM...

I am proud of the way you talked about the keeping the bike clean. Clean is good, "purty clean 'cause I've been busy riding" is better. Detailers are good too!

Exhilarating, yes, great choice. More than just the wind in the mug. Much more.

Gliding along at highway speed just above the ground in 3D motion to some great tunes with the input on the senses of wind, scents/smells, sounds, and sights. Attention to the details of the audience of cages, big trucks, wind, curves, scenery, and more. Yes, I think exhilarating works!

Ed, would you consider that three day Denver/Rockies VTX trip. All bikes are welcomed and I hear it's been fun in the past. Maybe we could catch up there. Interested?

I think the bottom line is that it has to be experienced. There is no way to describe to another something that which you enjoy. As an example, I've rode out a thousand miles on my GL1200 in 19 hours and still wanted to push on. Only someone who has a hunger to ride understands this. I only stopped then because reasoning begin to rule as I was only on about 4 hours sleep to begin with in a 40 hour period.

It looks like I'll be going to California for work on Monday, and I want to ride out but it will not be feasible at this point. When I say I would ride, I begin to hear stories that they've done many miles, as I, in their car and it is tough. Tough so be, but between a car and riding too me is totally two seperate things. Sure I could do probably do more than a 1,000 in 19 hours in a car, and I have but it is a far greater challenge to me than on a bike.

So I throw all this out here to say, that how do you describe how it feels to ride a Vision, it is impossible to describe, it must be experienced. I know in my being that riding a Vision is better than any other ride out there, as limited as my riding experience has been. But tell a winger who at this time has not riden anything better, and it being leaps over other things out there, that this strange looking, V-Twin underdog company has produced something better than there 30-year in the business, trend setting machine, they think you're on drugs, until they ride. I quite wasting my breathe in trying to describe the ride and tell folk when they ask, it rides great, the best ride I've ever been on. I told that to a 1200LT BMWer the other day and he just gave me a blank stare and said see you later. That's usually a reaction I get from others as well, because most do not want to hear that someone has something better, or you're trying to be your own brand loyalist and so on.

I think the best we can do is continue down the road with our silly grin on our faces knowing what we know. Once the sheep decide to get out and visit a Victory dealer and explore their options, describing to others what it is like riding, only eats into my riding time. Happy trails to you all....

Time to test the visions comfort quotiant, 1500 mile ride planned for may, R.I to brooksville F.L.A to visit an old freind. Was gonna try daytona but march weather too unpredictable. This will be my first long distance ride. Any long riders out there care to give some sage advice? I did get up to newhampshire an rode the kangamangus, I would say best way to describe ride on that road was more like i was flying very close to the ground.

What Does It Feel Like To Ride A Vision?
It's 'almost' better then sex!

Now this may sound silly.
Lately I have been have unexplained soreness in my right shoulder. Seems to have started one morning when I was about half pee'd off about my job.

The soreness comes and goes. Last Saturday on my 100 mile ride it hurted worse because of the angle I held my arm.
Sunday I was concerned because the ride was going to be 3 times longer.

Turns out at the end of the day the shoulder was almost painless. Wife thinks I am nuts because a long relaxing ride made my shoulder better. Me thinks my shoulder hurts because of job burnout and the aggravation that trucking is becoming (stress).

I said all that to say this.
Riding a Vision is pain relief!

No riding this weekend. 7 inches of snow and 2 foot snow drifts. Hard to belief it was in the mid70's just 6 days ago.
