I got squeaky brakes early on with my 10th Anny. I replaced the pads with EBC brand and all is quiet now. About $50 and got them through my dealer.

20 miles west of Chicago.
Enough to use some brake cleaner and check the pads for wear.

yoyo; you were talking about the BIKE'S rear, right?

Use some brake cleaner on the pads and calipers once a month, especially if you detail your bike without washing it. If your pads squeal a little, do a couple stops that are a little more aggressive brake pressure, they may help clean off the rotor, or pads. The rear brake is linked to the front, but it is proportional, and your only activating one of the three pistons on the front caliper, and I believe it is the center one. So if your on a rear brake drag slowing down the center piston is giving the front pad pressure, but not a lot of pressure, so you can get some noise from this. I've actually felt a pulse (vibration) on the front brakes during a rear brake light drag. I had the stock pads for the first 30k miles, switched to the EBC pads. Both, I feel performed equally as good, both had/have a little squeal at times, right at the end of a stop, but normally it is during light use. But when they are heated up through heavy use, I don't have any squeal. In the last year, I've seen a lot of shops carry the EBC pads, so they are easier to get now. The ones I got were USA made.

Thanks for the laugh Mudge...I read the post again, and laughed some more.

Back to the brakes..I don't think it would be a wear issue. Only 9 months @ 3K mi +/-...Any suggestions on cleaners?

The rain and salt on the roads did a number on my front and rear pads...even after cleaning...still a crunchy, grinding sound. Replaced them with EBCs all around and very much like the results. Easy replacement.

Use a little caution when using brake cleaners. I've seen some paint damage caused by brake cleaners getting sprayed on the paint. Be wise to consider wrapping a towell around the area to avoid any problems.
