New Bohemia, VA | The dawn was breaking as the hue of orange from the rising sun was over taking the darkness of the night. It is a sight of Victory for the rider crossing the many miles of sleeping towns fighting the illusion of shadows of things not there. Counting the headlights on the highway while calculating the next stop and the tasks to accomplish and how it will affect the ETA of home.
As I rolled on to I-295 N after forgoing my usual trek to work because of leaving later than normal, I saw the familiar site of a single taillight. My first thought it was just another commuter going to Richmond for the daily grind. Having focused on the pattern I quickly realized it was a Vision and in short order I was HOTT. As I approached I took note that the kindred rider was bound for the Keystone state and took stay along his side to announce my presence. He hesitated for a moment and then in obvious delight made acknowledgement of being of a kindred tribe.
I fell in behind as though I had always been there, giving him a push of the many miles ahead if he indeed was heading home. As I approached my exit, heading west on Rt 10 I pulled along side to bid him fairly well and then do a swopping turn on to the exit ramp. As he waved, much to my dismay he was taking the exit ramp for the east bound 10, leaving it too late for me to follow. I assumed he was stopping for either fuel, food, or bio or all three and continued around the ramps until I too was east bound. I found the Blue Street Vision parked in BK parking lot and pulled up as he was returning to bike from the pit stop.
I got to meet the one and only, famed Mr. Fedor from PA who was returning from the Lobsterfest in S. FLA. Man what a ride, he left at 10:00am yesterday and had been riding all day and through the night just to meet me this morning. I had never felt so honored then realized I was the one who turned around just to met him. He was still plugging away to get home and find his warm comfy bed waiting, still another 5 hours away. Dudes I just checked and he had done an Iron Butt and didn't even know, being it is over a grand from Key West, FL to Chester, Va.
Anyway, I got his phone number so that if I was ever up around Allentown, and I'm going to give him a buzz tomorrow just so he can have my number the next times he comes this way. It was great meeting Mike and hope he makes it home safely.
A footnote: He has 10,000 on the clock in just 5 months. While we were in BK parking lot a man gets out of his pick up and compliments us on the our bikes and asked how we liked the Victory's. I won't bore you with our response, but he goes on to say that he rides a V-star or something like that, and he "thought about riding this morning." I responded that is something I don't even think about any more. Mike did also say even after a thousand miles he was not tired from riding.
