Still no word on my questions relating to the grille replacement. And no access cover as yet. I had powdercoated mine, and because of the rocks here, it got a dent from one of them, chipping the powder coat! So I guess I will take it back off, and strip off the coat, and maybe re-coat it after I massage out the dent. Sure would be nice to have my replacment now..... and of course, the grills....-----Metalguy

Hey All

As someone who has not bought a ViVi yet (taking a test ride next month) and as someone who loves chrome and "bells and whistles" in general, this thread is certainly an eye opener, not to mention is sending up a few flags.

I will be very interested to see if/how Victory can rectify its supply and demand issues....its one thing to develop a great new toy, however if you can't get the "have to have and can't live without gadgets".....As this is purely a man thing I am sure that the ladies of this group are having a good chuckle...Ha Ha!

Again, as someone who is on the cusp of purchase, I hope that everyone will be posting pictures of their chrome once it arrives is installed.

Just a few thoughts.....

Gerry

To me, it wouldn't be nearly as big of a deal if it was simply a delay issue. It is an issue when the parts come in all scratched up from poor packing, and another big deal when there is no communication with the supplier, or when I was overcharged $700.00 bucks, and dealing with overdrawn accounts because of another's screw-up.......Once I get the rest of my chrome, I will be quite happy, as the Vision is still the best bike I have ever ridden. I just "want it all, and I want it now!" -----Metalguy

This must be a big concern to Victory. The major profit is not in the sale of the bike, but all the accessories that owners want to add (or wear). Just ask any Harley dealer.

Chrome.............I'm beginning to hate the word. Whoever is in charge of coordinating this process for Victory should be fired, TWICE! It all started will the forks and continues to this day with the accessories. How hard is it to find someone to put chrome over a stock part? Several riders have done it, I would think Victory could figure this out by now. The thing that has me all torqued off is the constant changing of delivery dates. I bet some of my parts have had at least 10 due dates. Frustrating! You either have the part to send me or you don't, quit jerking me around. If I'd known it was going to be over 4 months I would have taken off my parts and sent them out a long time ago.

I too would have gone that way, had I only known. Probably would have saved mucho bux, too. I may send my stock parts off to be chromed any way, just to have spares, or to experiment with transluscent finishes.-----Metalguy

Ah..........the saga continues for me. My Chrome Access Panel arrived at my dealer yesterday. This was the last piece from my original November, 2007 order. I asked him to inspect it before I picked it up so I didn't waste a trip. (150 miles round trip) Good news, no scratches or dents. Now for the bad news...........When I put it on the left side was sitting on top of the turn signal, not a big deal I thought I could get it to fit perfect with a slight adjustment. Now for the problem. When I went to remove the Access Cover the bracket on the right hand side broke. It did not come loose where it is glued, the spot welds that holds the bracket to the steel backing plate broke. (looks like cold welds) After I said a few choice words I called my dealer and explained what happened. More good news for Big Vic.........of course they will replace it when they can get one. Right now Victory is not taking orders for them until they get the backlog cleaned up. So maybe it will ship with my replacement Grilles that came in damaged last week. Right now I have a Vision of getting good chrome parts. On the brighter side my new Arlen Ness license plate bracket came in. It was in perfect condition, did not break, and it fit like it was suppose to. I wish Victory would ask Arlen to make all of their parts.

Wonderful. I too am waiting for my access panel. I sure hope I don't get a damaged, or flawed one! Oh, and still no reply from my inquiry about the parts I ordered, or the grill replacement for the f&%$ed up one I recieved. I wonder if they fell off the earth?-----Metalguy

Well, I guess I have to call them tomorrow, as they seem to have "lost" my e-mail asking weather they even recieved the damaged grill set I had to return.....and this guy is supposed to be a "manager" that I e-mailed, as he told me he would "handle" this personally. Is it too much to ask to return an e-mail about weather their poorly packed parts being returned actually get there? I will be writing up a full report on this company once I have the products I ordered. Don't hold your breath!----Metalguy

Anyone wanting to get their Vision stuff or anything else chromed should check out these guys, they are one of the biggest and they offer the best chroming I have seen yet, and anyone worried about the porosity of the rear tip over guards should take to heart that many Goldwingers have had their VERY porous stock wheels successfully chromed by PCA including two sets that I've sent them.

http://pca-industries.com/sh

Their turn around time does get quite large at this time of year, up to 10-12 weeks as everyone and their mother's uncle are wanting to get stuff chromed (not just bike stuff), the best time to send them stuff for chroming seems to be from mid November to mid January. I've shipped them stuff during this time frame and have received it back in three weeks or less.

I know how Victory feels. Where I work we send stuff to vendors to be machined, welded, manufactured and chromate coated.
One company that has made parts for us is like everyone is asleep there. 7 to 8 week lead time for small aluminum part and if they run into a problem they won't call. The part sits till you call and ask where it is. We just got a part back from having it chromate coated. It looks like they ran a cart over it then tried to coat over it again used a cheap brush. We sent out for a quote to have box made. A week and a half later we called and they finally sent the quote. $433 for the box, 7 to 8 week lead time and a $10,000 one time tooling charge. O>O
We do a lot of prototypes and one of's. I can imagine what it would be like to fine a bad vendor then try to fine another that does good work and can do ~1500 pcs quick.

I know when Brown's chromed my '99 p-floorboards I still am disappointed. Advanced Plating in Nashville, TN does great work but get a quote before you send the part. The work is worth the money but it might shock you if you were expecting a lower price.

I still remember the chrome '99 primary cover at the dealer I bought my '99 from with the bubble the size of a quarter in it.

Victory is trying to find a low cost quality place to do the chroming I am sure. Cause we all know from the board and the VMC that owners will piss and moan if they have to pay for show quality chrome. Like the old saying, "Damned if you and damned if you don't."

We try to do as much as we can in house now. Of course we will never get chroming in house with all the EPA restrictions. Guess we would do like so many other companies and get it done over seas. (I believe Ness chrome is done in Korea) but the lead time must extend to 12-14 weeks?

This doesn't help anyone waiting for there parts but it helps explain what is involved I hope.

Another note.... we had ordered special made Lexan door inserts with EMI filters built in. The price doubled after we got them 9 days after the due date. We opened the box to find that they would not fit because they were made wrong. From the paperwork we thought they sent us their prototypes? Of course they said no over the phone but luckily their salesman was in the area the next day and called the office. Sure enough they sent the wrong parts. They overnighted the correct ones but of course that just made them later to our customer. Like Victory we looked like the jerks because of a dumbass vendor. You would think $10,000 parts would get better service? Yeah, those two pieces cost as much as a Vision.

I understand delays, and vendor changes, and such. But piss-poor packing damaging part after part is totally unacceptable! Twice now, perfectly good chrome parts have been damaged because they were packed in too large of a box, with room to bang into each other. That, coupled with the dealer I ordered them from not returning e-mails concerning weather they even got the returned parts, and folks there dropping the ball, overcharging me.....well, it adds up to poor customer service. It really is too bad that they can't even pack a part properly. Supply problems are one thing, but when you leave your customers in the dark, and send parts out to be damaged on the way...it is just plain stupidity. There is no exscuse for the crappy service I have gotten.-----Metalguy

Sorry, crappy suppliers do not make for a good excuse in my book. Every large business has had to deal with this at one time or another. The dumb ones put up with it and make excuses for poor service. The smart ones do whatever it takes to correct the condition quickly and communicates with the customer. A really successfull company looks at "total cost" when choosing a supplier and partners with them. If you choosing suppliers based on cost alone your already behind your competition.

If you have been following this and other threads that I have posted on you know that I have been frustrated with chrome and other issues. My first Victory was an 01 Deluxe and the Vision is my 5th one. (next year will be my 6th) I have always had great service from Victory and was supprised how I have been treated since buying my Vision, so much so that I wrote a letter to Victory. Now for the good news. Thursday I got a call from a Customer Service Rep that wanted to discuss my issues. We talked for over an hour and I've never felt better since I bought my bike. Victory has contacted my dealer and started to work out resolutions for all of my problems. I have always been pro Victory and kept my complaints between Victory, my dealer and this web site. Once again I feel good about telling the whole world how great Victory is. As of right now I feel Victory will do their best to turn my negative experience into a positive one. I'm headed to my dealer today just to say hi and support his open house. More than likely I will end up working the floor trying to sell Victory's for him. So the moral of my story is this. If your unhappy make sure you get your message out. Start with your Dealer and go up the food chain if you feel you have to. I once again believe that Victory builds a great product, will stand behind it, and values their customers.

It seems we all agree that problems happen. However, the big problem is lack of communication from the factory. There is no excuse for this type of behavior.

The Vision is the one shining star of Polaris at this time. Considering the state of the economy, you think they would be bending over backwards to maintain positive momentum of the Visions popularity?

Well I finally got my access panel from Two Wheel Corp. I never did get the replacement grills, and they say they will just credit my accont the discounted price I was supposed to get them for as a consolation for their crappy service. So now I do not even get the discount. I have absolutely nothing good to say about my experience with these people. After paying, and being overcharged, and not getting answers unless I threaten, I have had enough, and still never got the chrome I paid for. I have been shorted my grill set, and once again they will not answer a simple e-mail. Do not support Two Wheel Corp. in NY. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -----Metalguy
