Subject: HID Headlight Help Please

I posted this also on the VMC site. Any help would be appreciated.

A couple of days ago I had to pull the headlight on my 08 Vision to change a burned out left high beam. I didn't touch or remove the wires from the HID light, just had a freind hold the headlight while I changed the left bulb. Yesterday, after putting it back on, I noticed that the reflector cone which surrounds the the HID bulb inside the headlight housing had come off and was lying at the bottom of the housing inside the lens. It appears that it has a tab or tang underneath it which slides into a slot under the bulb. It looks like there is a small locking lug on this tab, which should have held the reflector cone in place, but which has apparently not been engaged. Does anyone know how the HID bulb is held into the headlight housing and how to remove it. Also if I pull the HID bulb out, would I be able to get the reflector cone out through the bulb mounting hole and put it back where it belongs? Is the power wire for the HID plugged into the rear of the bulb like the regular headlights? If not where can I disconnect the HID power wire so I can completely remove the Headlight? Thanks.

Looking at it more closely, it looks like the hole for the bulb is too small to effect a repair, but I could be wrong. I hope internal headlight componants falling off is covered by my extended warranty.

Can't answer your question, but I do know the headlight assembly must come off to access the HID bulb. On a side note, if your HID stops working check the plug in beneath the rocker switch on your console. They come loose as there is no locking tab to keep them secure. I ended up using Velcro to hold it on

The same thing happened to my headlamp while I had it out while doing some other things. It can be fixed, but its a bit of a PITA though.

First...as you already know....the headlamp assembly WILL have to come out. The HID is held in with a gold colored "strap" that is screwed into the headlamp with two screws. The wire plugs into the back of the bulb.

Once you remove the strap the HID bulb comes right out. Be careful you don't don't the bulb at all. Oh...take the screws out with the headlmp facing upwards, otherwise the screws can fall down in the headlamp housing and you will play hell getting them out. Let gravity do the work.

You will not be able to remove the reflector cone out of the HID hole. But you won't need to remove it. The cone is plastic. I used a pair of long needlenose pliers and was easily able to get hold of the cone and reposition it and get it locked in place.

Thank you for the responses. I called the dealer this morning and he is going to replace the headlight assembly under (extended) warranty.
I didn't have to do too much explaining; he rides a Vision and the same thing happened to his. He's a good guy with an outstanding reputation and has always come through for me.

Sorry to tell you this but the same thing happened to my brand new Vision the night I picked it up at the dealer. They had to disassemble everything from the front of the seat forward, and replace the entire headlight assy. The HID, and the two bulbs together as a unit. It is a sealed unit and cannot be taken apart without destroying the seal. The entire unit goes for around $599 or better.

I see you've had a few replies. I'm a little late I guess.

When I bought my Vision, I had this issue. The dealer replaced it and said it was covered. NOW, the question is...is it covered under EXTENDED? I don't know but I would assume it is. Now, the use of assume was expressed as making an ass out of me! So, I would guess that I am probably wrong in this case.
