I am in the process of buying an 09 premium tourer. I asked about getting the upgrade to 65 amps on the electrical system, however, I was told that this is discontinued.

Does anyone know whyit is discontinued? What would I need to do it on my own? Or if the dealer would do it?

Thanks

Gerry

I was also attempting this upgrade but was told the same thing. I had some battery run down problems with my V92C and I wanted to avoid this problem with the Vision. For the time being its best to alter the use of electrics-rotate between the grips, seat and plug ins for clothing to avoid the excessive draw. My first Vic did not pump out enough juice at slow city speeds.

I have the stock charging system and ride every single day unless there is ice on the road. Never once had a charging issue. The stock Vision has never let me down. I run the grips and both seats on high along with the HID and fog lamps all the time when the temp gets down to about 40. I keep the back seat warmed up when i am headed to either pick up one of my daughters or my wife.

To answer your question on what you would need to change it yourself, you would need the flywheel and new stator along with a new primary cover gasket and the threaded tool to remove the flywheel. To change out the charging system should only take about an hour at most. Lay the vision over on its tip over protection on its right side. While you are getting your tools together the oil will drain over to the side and you can take the primary off without draining the oil.

Switch to LED lights all around and that will cut a lot of load. According to the service manual wiring diagram the 10 running lights (6 rear, 4 front) draw 9 watts each for a total of 90 watts, or about 7 1/2 amps. Going all LED would drop that to about 1/2 amp total. A real help, especially at low speed.
