With the release of the newest generation iPods and the new iPhone 3G, Apple discontinued the firewire pin out for charging the newer iPods with some charging systems (i.e. the Vision) Apple told manufacturers that this was going to happen but some continued to use the firewire pinouts. I ran into the same problem with my Jeep. The new iPhone would not charge but the music played fine because no music pin outs were changed. Here is the solution to fix the problem, an inline adapter that changes the 12 volt firewire to 5 volt USB on the correct pins. Just insert this adapter between the cable and your new ipod/iPhone and all should work fine.

Hope this helps!

Oh, great. So, paying $50 for the iPod cable wasn't enough, now I have to shell out another $40 for something to make it work right.

Ouch...I just purchased the 4th Gen Nano and plugged it in the new Victory pigtail and received that same message that this device is not supported to charge or something like that...oh well, I'm not on the IPod for 24 hours anyway...I went to Best Buy to purchase an FM converter so I can play and charge my IPod while I play it on the car or boat stereo...same message popped up, no support for charge...

I recieved my adapter today and it works like a champ!! I have no doubt that it will work on the Vision. If you have a new iPod, itouch, or iPhone, this is the trick to charging while connected. Hope this helps.

I just finished changing out the cable to use my new iPhone 3G on the bike. My phone is kinda tight in the "glove box". Anybody tried this with their IPhone. Looks like you would have to put a serious kink in the cable to make it fit. Any thoughts.

I posted this topic several months ago. I have the adapter it works very well. The Ipod cord is short enough as it is and with the
adapter, it makes getting your Ipod in and out of the compartment slightly difficult. The trick for me was to feed as much of the cable into the compartment once i connected it through the inlet into the quick clip to power it. The coolest thing I noticed (and cannot explain)
is that once I added the adapter, now the Victory Logo shows up on my Ipod screen,,,, I know, it doesnt take much to thrill me huh.

I too wrote to Victory about this feeling that not only was the packaging of the Ipod cord misleading ( it says powers and charges), but also the fact that it doesnt charge at 50.00 is rediculous. I asked that Victory either supply as an accessory piece, the adapter as well, or reduce the price of the cord knowing that another 30.00 will go into buying some other companies piece in order to make theirs
work................... guess what.................... NO RESPONSE as usual. Love the bike, not so in love with Customer Service

There is still too many things that the Iphone wont do that my Blackberry will, for me to consider changing.. Its like the Ness Vision, its sort of pretty, but leaves off the really important functions.

Slightly off-topic... there are 3 basic kinds of users for "smarphones" such as Blackberry, iPhone, Tilt, BlackJack, etc...

1. People who like or at least can use a touch screen.
2. People who do not like or can't use a touch screen but who like the two-thumbs or texting options.
3. People who do not like or can't use a touch screen who need a real keyboard or stylus options.

It's really that simple. I think the iPhone is the slickest thing since sliced bread and while it doesn't have a built in GPS and most of the software I use isn't compatible, but that's not the real issue. I'd get one, but I can't handle ANY fingerprints on my screen, and I need actual keys to text. Just can't get used to the no keyboard thing. Great phone tho..

Blackberry and BlackJack, great phones, but the screen is too small for me, and again... no real built in gps and the keyboard is too small for me too.

Tilt... best for me. Maybe not for you... but best for me.

If you use your phone more for a phone than a computer, Iphone, BlackJack or Blackberry are a good ways to go depending on your data input preference. If you use your phone more as a portable computer, then the Tilt or similar is the way to go.

Back on topic, I feel sorry for whomever at Polaris decided to add "iPod" compatibility. I'm sure it looked great on paper, but their timing sucked.. Apple has been known to change up technology every now and then, but they had a couple of pretty heavy innovations since the Vision went onto the drawing board which really slammed the engineers at Polaris. Nothing they could have really done differently so now they just have to roll with the punches. Same thing really with the GPS technology. What only two years ago was a brick you put on your dash, now is on a miniSD chip I slip in my phone. Pretty hard to keep up with those kinds of technology leaps.

I'll stay on topic -- but I have to disagree with your assessment here regarding Polaris engineers. The iPod 30-pin connector pin-outs were changed in 2004, however, many 3rd party counterfeit 30-pin connectors did not comply with this change from FireWire to USB charging.

If the Polaris engineer was on the ball they would have paid the Apple license fee, purchased the 30-pin connector from Apple's approved list of vendors and not had any of the compatibility problems they are having now. And they would have been able to use the "Made for iPod" designation -- just think Victory Vision, made for iPod.

It was unfortunately, another area that Polaris apparently attempted to cut corners to save cost but the nickel and diming had a negative impact. My recommendation for Polaris (as if they could care) would be to issue a recall on all the iPod cables and replace them with compliant cables.

LOL... you can't disagree with me, cause I AGREE with you!!!.. LOL... I wasn't even gonna go down the license road, but you spelled it out clear enough. I was just pointing out that had they gone the route they did, and maybe waited until the very last minute to do the wiring, or maybe the bike been released a year earlier, this would have had less-of-a "I just bought a new bike and stuff is old" feel to it.

But you are dead on. If they would have just bought the license agreement, all would be cool, but I can't imagine Victory putting anyone else's logo on anything. And, you are right, it was likely to cut corners so to speak so they didn't have to "officially" support iPod units, which now they are stuck doing anyway.

So I guess the bottom line (even tho we're gettin to it from two separate angles) is, that it would suck to be the guy that thought the whole iPod compatibility thing up.

Well, maybe they'll listen to ya, and go buy a bushel of connectors and make'em available.

Ok i am disagreeing that you think i might disagree with your agreements....................wait lemme stop my head from spinning.

one thing my blackberry will do that your Iphone will not do is send a text photo take on my blackberry to another device other than
a computer. small as that may seem we use that daily in our work, keeps all of our stores from having to have digital cameras and go to a computer to uplaod we can send photos fromm job site to job site.. and i agree that Polaris should recall the cables, or as a gesture send me a gift card for the difference to apply to a Vic purchase (and dont put a friggen 2 week expiration date on it either)... thats my take and im stickin to it
