I used the method that Blackjack described in a post on Vision-Roders.com to align my left saddle bag and captured it on video. The video will not be a contender for the Visi award this year. The camera is too shaky. Next time I will take still pictures and use them instead.

The procedure worked great!

After viewing your solution, any reason that you couldn't take a cut-off wheel on a dremel and just shorten the bolts the stick out so far?

The bottom of the round nut that is welded to the hinge hits the plastic as well as the end of the bolt. Cutting off the bolt would not be enough to free the hinge. This solution did not require removing or loosening any hardware.

I might work on the hardware later but I wanted to stop the hinge from binding first.

It only took about five minutes to trim the plastic. It took me ten minutes just to find the rotary tool.

Yours definitely sounds like the simplest solution. Thanks!

My gap is very small at the rear and hugh in the front. Will this work on the front hinge?

Michael,

I just looked at the front hinge on the left bag on Sparks and did not see any signs of a hinge bind. The front left cover hits my seat so I do not see a quick fix for the front hinge.

Thank you very much. I will look for the white rub marks, on the black plastice, when I get my
Vision back from service.

I took a look at mine and yes there is a small rub mark in the hinge area. The question is what is behind this area that would be drummeled. Would there be more road gunk getting into that area than already does.

Digby,

That area is outside the seal of the side compartment. On Sunday's, when I wash a weeks worth of dirt and dust off of Sparks, I notice that the hinges get wet since they are outside the dry area of the side bag. There was one spot where I went through the plastic housing. I guess I could put some silicone in the pin hole if I wanted. If I was more careful I could have done the job without going through the housing.

Ride Safe!

Blackjack,

I and a bunch of other people did not see the hinge bind but you saw it and described it here on Vision-Riders.com.

It was only right to give credit were credit was due.

Thanks for the information.
