Finally a rag review on the Vision that makes sense. Thanks for posting Jeff.

Oh, and I like the response on the ABS, and why they did not use it.

I believe you will find that the limiter is only active in 6th gear. The bike will actually go faster in 5th than 6th gear, kind of like some of the sports cars, such as the new Corvette.

That would be because 5th gear is a 1:1 ratio, whereas 6th gear is lower so as to improve fuel economy while cruising at highway speed.

At red line, mine will pull ~112 mph in 5th, I did not go past the red line no need to blow it up. With a shift up to 6th at that speed it would only pull up to 115 mph. This is with the windshield down, flaps in and tucked in. Takes a lot of hp to push this big bike through the wind, so in overdrive she is running out of "Giddy-up", but the radio works good at 115, "Sweet".

Actually, it is because the engine is limited to 4550 RPM in 6th gear. The limiter cuts in at 5400 RPM in every other gear. 5400 in 5th gear = 120 MPH. 4550 RPM in 6th gear = 120 MPH. If the lower 6th gear limitation weren't active, the bike is geared for 142 MPH in 6th. Of course, we would need a long downhill run and a stiff tailwind to achieve that speed. Or a lot more power.

The stock Vision's torque curve starts to fall off past 4400 RPM, which equals 115 MPH in 6th gear. With a downhill run, you will see 120 MPH, but no more, because the limiter prevents it. With engine mods to extend the torque curve, and elimination of the 4550 RPM limiter, the bike would be able to go faster. Yeah, I know, 120 MPH is fast enough. Unless your buddy has a GL1800 that will do 130+ on that long downhill straight. On level ground, we are neck and neck on top speed, but he's got the bragging rights to absolute top speed (given the right conditions, of course).
