Those with luggage racks...are they worth the money? l know load weight is limited and the rack already adds weight. Your thoughts?

I thought they were a bit pricey, and still do for that matter.

I had to have it though. The install went pretty easy, but I did need to shorten the rubber bumpers that are part of the package. No matter how hard I slammed the lid, it would not latch. Shaved a little off the bottom of each bumper, and now it works fine.

About the only thing I have ever put up there was my sleeping bag (in a water proof cinch bag). Seems to work fine, but I would caution you when opening the trunk lid... be careful when you lean the door on the trunk wire, I have not had any problem, but apparently several people have broken theirs and with the extra weight on top, I can only imagine the potential for damage.

The Chrome job is pitiful. It looks like they chromed it in a sand box... during a wind storm!

Riding 2 up with the bags all loaded and more on top of the luggage rack, makes for a very top heavy bike. To solve this I got a trailer and with only 15 lbs of tongue weight added to the bike, it has greatly reduced, if not almost eliminating the feeling of being top heavy.

If you are riding by yourself, you may be better to get a bag that fits on the passenger seat rather than the rack.

I've got the Victory rack. It's fairly heavy. It's expensive. We use it on every trip, and wouldn't be without it.

As mentioned, don't let the trunk lid flop forward with the rack on, loaded or unloaded. You'll break the restraining cable. My wife did just that. Nothing was damaged other than the cable. Since I replaced it, and schooled her on letting the cable take the weight gradually, all has been well.

We've had far more than 20 pounds on it and nothing has broken.

It makes the bike top heavy, which I really only notice at slow parking lot speeds, and when getting the bike off the sidestand.

Did I mention we wouldn't be without it on trips? It's really handy for carrying bulky, but light, stuff like sleeping bags or cold weather riding suits or rainsuits. We use one of those expandable T-Bag luggage rack bags made for a Goldwing on ours. Works great.

We have the Victory tour pack rack and don't use it much since we got a HitchDoc hitch and a PakitRak rack.

The PakitRak comes with a Neson Rigs bag that locks onto the rack.  The rack is low and out of the wind.  The Victory tour pack rack made the bike too top heavy.  The PakitRak does not.

Also, since the PakitRak is not a trailer, you are not limited to the slow lane.

When I purchased my bike last year they were giving away $1,000.00 worth of accessories, so I purchased the rack at that time. A couple months later I went ahead and bought the Victory bag made for the rack. It's a nice fit. I don't put anything heavy up there though. To me it looks good and fits the style of the Vision.
