Laura & I just returned from North Carolina/Tennessee where we rode the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. Great roads and beautiful scenery. The weather was cool (38 degrees in the morning but middle 60's during the day) and clear all 4 days.
Sorry,we haven't had time to upload any pics yet but will do soon.

Professional pics of the us riding the Dragon can be seen @ www.zeefoto.com 10-20-08 pages 7&11 me riding solo, pages 21,24&25 us riding 2up and 10-21-08 page 24 us riding South back to our campground the 2nd day after riding the Skyway.

We stayed @ the Ironhorse Motorcycle Resort & Campground in Stecoah,NC. The rates were very reasonable and we would stay there again, but would probably rent one of their cabins instead of trying to sleep in my cramped Toy-Hauler.

Overall, a great trip & I did so much better riding the Dragon than I ever would have imagined. Only scraped the left floorbord a couple of times!

Well Luke, you beat me too it. Maybe I'll take my One year Anniversary ride November 17th. Do they take pics everyday of the week or just weekends and special events? Look forward digging up your pics, congrats.

Chris, as far as I know, the photogs are out there every day from about 10 AM to 4:30 PM 7 days a week.

The Dragon is far more challenging than the roads here in Florida (i.e. 11 turns in 318 miles LOL) but I really enjoyed the 5 trips I made through there - 2 runs Northbound and 3 runs Southbound.

It's definitely a scretch of road you would NOT want to do at night,in the rain, or if you can't give it your COMPLETE attention & focus. Anyone attempting this road would need to have a clear head, good tires and good BRAKES!

BTW pics are also availble @ www.killboy.com & www.us129photos.com but are about the same as zeefoto's IMHO

The DRAGON is a AWESOME ride. I did it a few years ago on my old wing. I can't wait to do it on the VISION. When I did the run I was with 3 other tourbikes. We had NO TRAFFIC and grinded pegs the whole way as fast as we could go. What a rush. Made me want a smoke like after great sex. And I do not smoke.

Savannah, GA -Year round riding!! Yay!

I love the roads in that area.... The Dragon is good, you can get a sticker and a T-shirt, and a pic of yourself in motion. But it's hard to find a road in that area that isn't fun, and a vast improvement over Coastal GA (like FL) roads.

A friend of mine, Mo, owns a campground just down the road from the Iron Horse, The Kickstand Lodge. She and her husband, Fred, opened it. Avid riders. Fred passed away almost 2 years ago of cancer. Nothing fancy, but she cooks a spectacular breakfast and dinner, served family style.., and everything is designed from a riders point of view.... Many nights spent around the campfire and on the deck, BS-ing with other riders from all over the world. Mo never forgets a face or a name. She is amazing, and a wonderful person.

Chris, I've ridden The Dragon on both weekends and weekdays. IMHO, go Tues-Thurs if you can, especially if during the warm months. The traffic is a lot better. Pics are taken by one of the 3 outfits that Luke mentioned most days. The State Patrol is out in full force on weekends, especially on The Dragon, to crack down on reckless driving.

I'm in a real state of flux because of work and wanting to go to Texas before November 17th, my one year Vision Anniversary and CoolHand Luke's. My son lives in Texas and that is my real motivation to go and see him, his wife and the grandbabies. I also wanted to break 30k in one year, which is not something I've specifically trying for, but since I ride all the time anyway it is a natural. And I've always wanted to do the Dragon. So if I plan everything right, I'll go to Texas, 1,655 miles in just over 24 hours. (at least 1,500 in 24) and then return via Brighton, Tn, and then off to the Dragon, I'll kill a couple of chickens with one trip. Did I say chickens? Well, I won't kill anyone I hope, especially not me, but I've want to see if this pollolittle guy is real or if it's not SongFan's alter ego. If he's real I'll buy him a DP.

So the bottom line is that the Dragon, to meet my goal would have to actually be Sunday the sixteenth, unless I do it before noon on Monday the 17th, the time I drove away with the Bentley.

Okay, break it up people. Move along, go back to what you were doing. Nothing to see here!

http://www.dealsgap.com/ this will tell you about it. It's really a NC moutain road that has 318 curves in 11 miles that has become a motorcyclist favorite.

Went to Dragon last year on my Kingpin & it was really awesome. Great scenery all through that area. Can't wait to take my Vision there.

Wow, that sounds like a great trip! Does your wife ride with you on thse long hauls, or will she fly to TX?

Sundays in Nov. should be quiet, squidless, up there. Check ahead, a lot of the hotels/resteraunts/fuel stations in that area close for the season sometime in Nov. Go easy on the poultry in TN, and report your findings here, along with any photographic documentation. Just in the sake of science....

My trip to Texas so far has been solo and it is to visit my oldest son from my first marriage. Went last year on my Goldwing, this year, of course the Vision. The trick is I'm right up to the last minute deciding that I will go or not, so I'm not 100% sure it will even happen. It seems to make it more fun that way I guess. I decided within hours I was going last year. Got four hours sleep and then did 1,024 miles in 19 hours even with messed up clutch fluid and on the phone with my boss to see if I would even have a job when I go back. Talk about uncanny, it seemed like just as I would shot off my motor to get gas, my phone would ring. It never rung while I was riding, only when I stopped, like they knew. So anyway, I'll push the ride down and meander on the way back.

VeryLongDistanceVaryder- nothing like last minute planning. Hang the phone up, who wants to talk to the boss anyway. #$%t or get off the pot, already, make up your mind like a real man would with a woman standing behind him with a bat. What is the correct answer, Honey?

I've already reminded you once about harming the chickens. Now I may have to take this current threat to the gizzard. No reason, for such animosity toward the fowled friends of the sky or land. FYI, most chickens don't fly far. I may have to send a 1000 flying, walking friends in your direction to give your bike a new black, white and dirty brown pain job. Cover up that silly red paint job. It will be "CUSTOM"!!!

SongFan - am i your alter ego? How does one answer that if he doesn't know the other ego exists. HMMMM!!!!

SongFan and I (alter ego) were wondering when this unknown date would arrive?
