Went for a rife today and stopped for gas and fuel door will not open.

What is the trick to get it open now?

Am I headed for a teardown of the fairing?

Thanks in advance for your help

Happened to me hundreds of miles from home. I removed the radio at the gas station, pulled on the cable and the door opened. Then used tape to hold door shut rest of the trip. The plastic tab that holds the cable sheath had broken on my 2008. It is metal on my 2013.
I posted my repair with photos in tech reference.
Good luck. PM me if you need help and I'll send you my number.

Kioti, I am just assuming that is you problem. Her it the link to my fix. The alternative was a new top tank piece that cost over 100 bucks.

Mine was done under warranty - it was deemed a poorly designed piece.

Happened to me at my last fuel stop headed home from a week of touring-same thing the little clip that holds the cable broke. I could see the door moving slightly when I turned the key so I knew the cable was in tact-I was able to take a piece of stiff wire (like a coat hanger) and hook the cable through the gap at the hinge and pull on the cable while turning the key and got it opened and fueled up. I have since disabled the cable and latch spring and added magnets to keep the door closed-not terribly worried about fuel security, perhaps I'll fix the clip in the winter but it works for now.

Thanks everyone for the replys, I got the door open thanks to ByteN2it.
I think I am going for the magnet idea to hold it closed until I get time to repair it

Magnets stick to other magnets. I used some strip magnets that peel & stick to pretty much anything-you can get 'em at a craft/hobby shop. Had to double 'em up to fill the gap and it takes a pretty good push to get them to release.

I contacted the new dealer in my area to get my fuel door repaired since I have the extended warranty.
Reply from Polaris star(warranty company) was not what I expected.

They denied the claim the dealer filed because the warranty CLEARLY STATES that it DOES NOT COVER COSMETIC BODY PANELS.

I guess the poor design of the fuel door cable retaining system is JUST LIKE the poor design of the front fender. Must be a wear item?

At this point I am very disappointed in Polaris and Victory

Had mine break off on a road trip 400 miles from home. Thank God I had my tools and a tube of JB Weld
