Metro-Detroit Michigan | I would appreciated anyone having a Road Dog trailer giving me some feed back regarding use, issues, top speed while towing, handling, etc. I am considering the purchase of a hitch from Hitch Doctor and the Road Dog GT trailer. |

Edmonton, AB | This is exactly my set-up. 2008 VV + Hitch Doc Hitch + Road Dog GT. It works great. I can pack everything we need for work trips and pleasure trips. The low profile works really well in cross-wind conditions. It handles really well and even when loaded with gear, the only time I notice that it is even back there is when accelerating hard or when stopping fast. This has more to do with the inertia of the extra weight than it does the trailer so not an issue.
Lean angle is not an issue, with the trailer attached I can still lay the bike down on the tip-overs.
I will add a picture later when I'm at a computer where I can reduce the size.

1. What is the top speed that you have ridden while fully loaded with the trailer?
2. Average fuel consumption while pulling the trailer when fully loaded?
3. How well does the trailer handle in curves?
4. What options (if any) did you purchase with the trailer?
5. Did you install the hitch or did you have that done and by whom?

Not sure... Probably around 85-90mph when passing a semi or a bunch of cars on a road where the passing lanes are limited so I would try to quickly get around a bunch of vehicles when the opportunity presented itself.
2. Average fuel consumption while pulling the trailer when fully loaded?
Don't know the numbers. I don't focus much on fuel consumption....mostly remaining range. I do know it drops with the trailer loaded but I found that a head-wind seems to have more impact on the mileage than the weight in the trailer.
3. How well does the trailer handle in curves?
Excellent. I am often amazed at how well it handles. I always leave extra room for stopping distance but other than that it does not have a significant impact on how the bike handles in the curves.
4. What options (if any) did you purchase with the trailer?
None....didn't need any.
5. Did you install the hitch or did you have that done and by whom?
I installed it myself.
Additional information.....the trailer handles so well that we will always take it on an overnight trip so we can simply throw the stuff in the trailer instead of having to pack it in the bags/trunk. We love the fact that the trunk is empty and available for quick access to the few items we do put in the trunk...also leaves room in the trunk for helmets when we stop. We have even taken the trailer on day trips so we could take some camp chairs and other stuff for a "pic-nic" in the mountains.
My commute to work is only about 20mins and there are times when I have to transport larger items between work and home and I will hook up the trailer and ride the bike instead of taking the cage.
If something happened to my Road Dog GT....I would buy another one without hesitation.

Jasper, MO | Does the Road Dog have a shock absorber (damper) in addition to the suspension or just a spring of some sort?

NewVicVision....here's some more info you were looking for.
We just got back from a 3 day trip to SE British Columbia. With your questions in mind, I re-set the trip info before I left. Here are the results.
3 days of mountain riding. 1048 Miles riding 2-Up w/ Trailer in Tow the entire time. Estimated weight of cargo was around only around 100-150 pounds. At the end of the trip the dash display showed...
Average Fuel Consumption 35.2 Miles/Gal
Avg. Speed 53.5 Miles/hour

Metro-Detroit Michigan | I have decided to purchase the Road Dog Wide Track after a recent visit to a dealer 400 miles from my home. While they DID have a Wide Track in stock from 2012 and I did inform them that I would be there on Saturday to see the trailer, they sold it 5 minutes before my arrival. However, they will contact me on Monday regarding a price for having another delivered to my home. However, upon reflection - I suspect that I will purchase the unit and pick it up rather than having it delivered. |

You may want to think ahead before buying from the dealer. Based on your post, they don't seem to lost all credibility and integrity. Not sure what their quality of service will be post sale since their pre-sales support was non-existant. |
