The stock gas cap can leak and it can cause throttle issues. Check your cap if it has been leaking have your throttle body looked at because the plastic bushings in the unit can melt if they get fuel on them.

Just a heads up. My bike was in the shop for a couple weeks because of this.

I just read your other post. Thank you for the heads up.

I have never rested the gas pump nozzle in the tank top, so I am lucky. The slow gas fill from one tank to the other always has me looking in the tank, so the gas pump nozzle is never in there very hard. I still can't believe I haven't burned my shin on the muffler yet bending over staring down into the fill hole.

+1 on the filling the tank but the stock cap is a poor design the new cap has a skirt like gasket

My 2008 has a serious gas fume smell after every fillup.....this lasts for 20-30 or so miles

The Vision gas cap has been redesigned and the updated one does have a "skirt" for better contact and sealing.

Next time at your dealers check the gas cap on the new Visions and compare it to yours.

The new caps are $35.

Might help some to know that Victory punched out some of the tank filler necks to thin on the 2008's and are aware of this. So if your gas cap is leaking, it is likely (actually is period) due to the bent fill neck, which shouldn't bend even if you rest the fuel pump nozzle on it. Dealer should replace the fill neck and install a new cap under warranty without any hassle. Mine started out with just a faint fuel smell and got so bad it would pressurize and gush gas all down the motor at a stop, even when I purposely didn't top off the tank.
A little advice: Check your fuel gage before you take your bike in to schedule for this repair. Mine would NEVER read full, and would stick on occasion. Victory also replaced the fuel pumps that were failing on the 08's if this sticking/low reading was a factor. So if you have either of these problems along with the spilling of fuel, get it all done at once.

Had the exact same problem, but as Teach stated they would Victory replaced mine under warranty.

Also be sure to check around where the filler neck goes through the body. I had to put a bead of silicone in there because if any gas sloshed out of the neck it would drain down and splash on the motor instead of going through the over-flow and down under the bike like it should.

To resurrect an old thread: Son of a gun, the gas cap on my '08 Vision leaks. Is there a cheap fix for this? Maybe cut a gasket for it?

I have the old style gas cap and it started leaking... I took a very thin rubber gasket from another cap and cut it to fit the Vision cap. I'm now using it on top of the original gasket and no more leaks. Fingers crossed...

Dealer said he could replace my gauge forover $400. And some change. No warranty on my bike. I only had a year warranty it was out in 09... So I have left it alone until I get my bigbore k
Kit.

There are 2 ways to turn (install) the gas cap on. On my 09 vision, my gas tank cap would leak if it was not installed in the same way. Basically, it is a 180 degree change in the way the gas cap would be installed. Try it.

I have some picture of a PVC collar I made to keep the neck round & the cap to seal up good on the PVC to keep it from leaking. Have a write up some placed of how I did it. Gallery pictures are under "wingit3611"

Might want to find an anti-static material for that PVC collar application. PVC generates static and it could potentially discharge while you're fueling up and go bang! It's a slim chance that all of the conditions would be just right to ignite; but the potential is there.

I personally have not had any problems with my gas gauge leaking; what a relief that is..

Rotating the gas cap seemed to help with that leak, but not for long. But buying a $7 gas cap at the auto parts store seems to have done the trick. I wish I had done that fifty thousand miles ago.

The potential is there for anyone on a motorcycle to fall over.

This goes right along the lines of turning your cell phone off when filling up because it "could" generate static.

This goes right along the lines of touching the metal of your car before filling up and not getting back into the car while it is filling because it "could" generate static.

These recommendations all stem from instances of fires occurring while filling up at a gas station where no other possible cause could be determined.
