How thick is the plate? Is that 1/4" ? Is there a gap between the engine and the plate?

Looks like these could be home bulit using strap to go across and then a plate bolted or weld to the straps. Would save alot of cutting time. I've also thought about using honeycomb aluminum there for something to absorb the shock vs. transferring it to the sides of the case through the bolts.
