I've the opportunity to trade my 05 Roadstar for an 05 Kingpin tour....even trade. I've had the Yamaha 6 years and have loved it...but I've fallen in love with the Victory line as well (I also have an 08 Vision). I just don't know much about the kingpins. It has comparable mileage to the road star and very close in condition with the exception of the front forks and triple tree...the chrome is bad and would require rechroming (I have no clue as to the cost of this).

Let's here from you Kingpin riders...especially if you also have experience with the Roadstar.

Go for it! I got off my much loved VENTURE ROYALE and onto my new 08 VISION with no regrets then or since

Kingpin is a great bike, I had an 08 KPT someday I will own another KP or a Vegas. Having said that, I would keep the Yamaha; after 6 years you must have all the extras to get it the way it is comfortable for you. Since the Vision has to be your goto ride ride, the other bike will see limited use. Save your coin for the 2014 redesigned Vision; your spoiled now, nothing but a Vision will do. Ha Ha.

Moose I have to agree with RhodeTrip and keep the Yammy. I rode the Yammy and found it to be a very light bike for it's size and would make a great around town alternative to the VV. If I had one I'd have hard bags on it and apes like a hard ball. That way it would make a good short to medium weekend tour bike and around town it would have some utility. I would make it my personal expression bike and the VV for serious touring. JMHO.

As much I loved my 08 Kingpin Tour I also suggest you keep the Yamaha for now...After six years I assume you know the bike well and have done to it what you want...If I were to get a Kingpin again I would get a newer model instead of the 05/06..I do not own a Yamaha but ride with a guy, on occasion, and he claims it is a great bike....Do what ever makes you happy..it's your choice...BTW, check some posts on the VMC from Cook06Vegas..He just bought an 05 Kingpin with front fork issues similiar to the ones you describe...Listed under the general Victory discussion section.....Good Luck

I traded my pin for my vision and wish I could have kept both! Pin was my first victory and absolutely love it! You should do it, hands down..

I never owned a Yamaha like the one you mentioned, but I did have an '05 Kingpin that I bought new and I can't say enough good about it. I would think the value is more on the Kingpin than the yamaha. Based on what I have seen, the imports just don't hold their value as much. Also, they don't make the Kingpin anymore so it should become a collectors item. Wow, wish I still had mine, even with the '09 Vision in the Garage, that Kingpin was a blast to ride. Good luck on your choice.

Well....I pulled the trigger and made the trade. I'd planned on selling the Yamaha anyway. I've been wanting another victory in the stable for a few years now. What I'd really like is a highball....perhaps next time. I think I'm going like the kingpin. It's a real beauty...white with gray flames. I enjoyed the Yamaha, it took me to Sturgis in 2008 where I discovered Victory and decided to buy the Vision. I put a lot of great miles on her, but it was just time for a change.

I told my son about the trade last night and he said "Dad, are you gonna keep the Kingpin? If I can sell my Drifter I'd like to have it" So it may not be in the garage long anyway.

Oh, and my other son, my youngest, just bought his first motorcycle yesterday as well. He bought a Kawi Vulcan 500 as a starter bike. It looks like we are just a motorcycle family.

The handling difference alone makes it a good deal as the Kingpin will make you think that the Road Star was make only for straight lines. I loved my '07 and although the '05 has a smaller engine and the 5 speed tranny you will still love how it performs.
