2012 Vision with about 2k miles. My front brakes drag. I can hear them grind/drag when I'm pushing it around with the engine off (around my garage) and when I was turning the tire to clean it. I know alot of disc brakes drag slightly. Is this normal on the Vision? The front brakes on my Nomad didn't drag at all (and it stopped very well so the brakes weren't bad).

If this isn't normal, what can I do to fix it? With only 2k miles on the bike, I can't see needing to flush the fluid just yet (and not sure I want to with ABS).

When I jack my bike up and spin my front wheel to clean it; I can hear my brakes dragging as well. They always have done that; so I would think it's normal since you have it too.

I have 10400 miles on it now (2011) and the pads and rotors still look good.

It does it even on the ground but if it happens to others, I'll assume it's normal and dismiss it. Thanks.

Every motorcycle, car, and truck disc brake I have ever owned drags slightly. There is nothing to retract the pads away from the rotor. Mountain bikes are the only disc brake I have seen that incorporate a spring to retract the pistons.

Thanks for the discussion guys. Last summer I had the front right disk on my '08 VV develop quite a warp, measured it, believe it was .070. I replaced the disk, and thought my front end worries were over. But, then I noticed the same 'grinding' noise when I was backing the bike into the garage after a ride.

So, last weekend, I put it on the lift, and rolled the wheel, the 'grind' was still there. I was convinced it was the bearings, however, I removed the calipers, one at a time, and noted that the 'grinding' was the brake pads on the rotor. No gouging or abnormal wear on either side of either disk. Without the calipers installed, the wheel turned silently. I pushed the caliper back, inspected the pads (don't recall them being very thick to begin with, so, there is pad there) installed the calipers, and spun the wheel, still silent. Pumped the front brake a few times to seat the pads, then spun the wheel, and the 'grinding' returned. So, based on the discussion I am reading, it is quite normal, and I'll check the torque for the caliper mounting bolts, and get on it and ride (the next decent day).

Thanks a bunch for the information.

Smart bunch of guys, aren't they? I knew my problem wasn't bearings as it was on a brand new bike. On an '08, it probably couldn't hurt to change the bearings. I doubt they're very expensive.
