Central Maryland | So I ordered and recieved the 24205 Thrush Mufflers; they are the 31" o/a length with 2.25" inlet diameter. I'm having a serious brainfart right now about the exhaust tip fitment.
Do I need 2.25" inlet diameter Exhaust tips and will they expand enough with slit cuts; or do I need to buy the 2.50" inlet diameter Exhaust tips and clamp them down hard with the slit cuts?
Something so seemigly simple is really becoming quite confusing to me.... |

| GET THE 2.50 TIPS AND GO TO A MUFFLER SHOP AND ASK THEM TO EXPAND THE ONE END TO 2.48 |

flagstaff, AZ | I used tips with matching inlet, put slits on the pipes. Forced the tips on, clamped, then had a friend put a couple tack welds. Still holding tight. |

| I used stainless steel reasonator tips part # 25556 from Oreillys. They r 4 x 9". They have 3 screws plus some type

| I bought tips with the 3 screws as well. My heat shields actually tighten up on them. I know I could get a closer gap if I had the slide on type. I may change these out at some point. Just enjoying the sound so far. The 3 screw type work, just think you can get a better look if you want.

Central Maryland | Well guys....
...I finally got all of the stuff that I need to get the Thrush pipes on my '11 Vision. Had Midas expand the bushings on the glasspacks to 2.48-2.49" as Miralem suggested. The Dynomax 2.50" tips now fit nice and tight.
Picked up some steel strapping to hang the glasspacks from the two mounting points on each side; as well as all of the needed nuts and bolts for fastening, some 1" steel stock to incorporate into the back mount as Chapel (or someone here on this board) had done, 10 4" hose clamps for the heat shields and additional on the rear mount/1" steel bar, and I have some REAL HEAVY DUTY steel strapping for the rear mounts if necessary.
Will dive into the operation early tomorrow morning. Hopefully all will go according to design, I've studied everyone's posts on this board who've done this modification and I am fairly confident that this will go fairly smoothly. Will report back when finished.

| Look forward to your report. I just bought this complete setup from a forum member. I am going to have my tips welded on before I start the install. This setup already has mounting tabs welded to it so I am hoping install wont be too hard. Let us know how your install goes!

, AR United States | When I had the Thrushes on my Vision, a couple of the pipe strap hangers broke. Might have been cheap material. I think I replaced them with some large hose clamps. Also I used automotive type muffler u-bolt clamps to hold the mufflers on the header pipes, and they sort of crimped the connection. When I removed the Thrushes I had to split the ends of the mufflers to get them off. Whatever you use, just check occasionally to see that it all stays in place. |

Central Maryland | Probably will finish this up in the coming weekend.... getting the old OEM pipes off literally kicked my azz... thank gawd for penetrating oil and a big azzed strap wrench.

Central Maryland | Making progress, will have her finished sometime today... just need to get the chrome heat shields installed and body trim panels reattached.
Was very hot yesterday here in Marylandistan; even though my shed was in the shade for most of the afternoon, was sweating buckets of water; completely soaked to the bone from it. It was 108 degree's for most of the afternoon ; according to my weather temp gauges I have installed at the house.
Here's some detail of the back mounting modifications I did; with the past posts of members whom have done this mod:

FINALLY figured out how to post photo's here too !!! I just need to get the heat shield and body panels installed and she'll be ready for a nice; thunderous ride. I already started her up in the shed.... AWESOME, deep sound !

| Willtill I have the same setup on mine with the same tips and the sounds is great but you do loose a little power but the sounds is worth it. I am just now seeing this post, but have to tell you. When I did mine there was a bad exhaust leak and I had to use permatex copper to get them muff's to seal so you may have to also. Just to let you know you will get popping if they don't seal right. Dain |

Soooooo, it sounds like I need to pull em back off and use this permatex stuff to seal? Do you just smear it around the end of the pipe that you slide the Thrush onto? Sorry for all the questions, but I only want to do this one more time!;0)

Yes, the Permatez muffler sealer I got from Pep Boys. It's like a gray, claylike paste from a tube, you just smear it on the mid pipe (and I smeared some of it on the inside of the glass pack pipe as well). then push it on; give it a little twist back and forth and clamp it down. |

I cannot for the life of me get the tips to tighten on the end. It just doesnt want to compress onto the pipe to tighten. It seems like with the slits that the clamp would tighten down. Do you think a regular muffler clamp would do the trick? Sure would like to complete this project!

the Dynomax tips that I used were 2.50" inlet. The Thrush mufflers that I used were 2.25" outlet (and inlet). I took my Thrush Glass packs to a local Midas shop and they expanded the Thrush's outlet to 2.49" or so; making it a very tight fit for the Dynomax tips. I have no leaks at this point; either with the Dynomax tips nor at the point where the Thrush inlets slip over the Visions mid-pipes. |

| Yeah, I havent had the mufflers expanded and the clamps wont tighten down the tip to the muffler. Really dont want to pull the mufflers off again, but who knows. Dain mentioned something ion a previous thread about some reducers for the Dynomax tips. Not sure how that works. When you had your muffler expanded, were you able to tighten up the tip then with the clamp that came with the tip? Its lookin more and more that I will have to pull the mufflers again. Hope the residue from the permatex doesnt cause any issues.
All I know is, need to get the bike back on the road!
