I have a headlight bulb with the high beam out. I dont have access to my shop manual. Can someone please tell me the number for the headlight bulb so I can pick one up tomorrow at an Auto Parts store? Thanks for any info that you can provide.

Its just a standard H4 bulb....I recommend changing them both at the same time, might as well skin your knuckles up only once.

While a stardard H4 bulb will work I would recommend the one that is for the "sports" application. I've had to change many bulbs, I have smaller hands, but the ones that seems to be the best is the sports type H4. I picked mine up at Wal-mart, but don't know if they still carry them. My frustration level is not into changing both if both is not burnt.

Ugh, just yesterday I also discovered a high beam out on one bulb.
I'm ashamed to say I'll take it to the dealer. My paws are just too big and clumsy for this task.

I knew it was a fairly common bulb, I just couldnt remember the H4 number. Last time I changed just one bulb the other went out about a week later so I do plan to change them both.
Thanks guys...

If you do it yourself, don't forget to wipe the bulb postion with Denatured (rubbing) alcohol or the oils from your dancing digits will cause the bulb to overheat and fail very soon.

and if you are only going to change one and not the other, make sure it is the same color temperature and intensity. Otherwise it will look a little lopsided going down the road. H4 bulbs range in color temperature from 2600K on up to 6000K (more for specialty bulbs) . I think the stock are around 3200K but I'm not sure.

Go to NAPA and get the 9003 55/60 WHITE with a blue tip bulbs. I believe they are Sylvana. Cost is about $28 for a pair. Much brighter than the stock blub. They throw off the bright white light

I put in the bright white lights the very first day I had the bike one year to all most the day the one went out. Went to Auto Zone and ask for the bulb that would last more then one year. He laught and said they really don't last.

You'll find you have to take the hole front of the bike apart to change the light and thats all most a hole days worth of work. Do both if your going to do it.
Now the say if you take out the air filter and aim the light up as far as it will go you can do it. But then your hands have to feel every thing cause you can't see nothing.

GOOD LUCK you'll need it

I think my right bulb was a philips or something like that, bright something or another. The left bulb is a sports bulb, I think it is a philips also, and both of those lights have been in for well over a year. Just prior to that the bike was eating them like candy.  I got a couple of these from walmart in the clearance bin.

I won't have any alcohol if I change it before I get home but I am always extra careful to not touch the glass. I also find it helps to do a "dry run" with the damaged bulb to get a feel for how best to get the new bulb in without touching the new gass on anything that could leave any dirt or residue.

You can change the bulb without taking the front apart. I have changed a bulb 4 times since 2008, first one was the only one that was done in my garage, the rest were done in a parking lot at a parts store or a hotel. Air filter out, small hands, feel your way around. It really helps if you know how the spring clip that holds the bulb into the socket works. I knew that part from other vehicles I had worked on that used the same type bulb. Once I determined that the Vision retaining spring worked the same way it made it easier to "see" how it had to come out while I was feeling my way around.
The first time for each bulb was definitely the hardest because it was a struggle to get the wire plug off the bulb.

Hint..l also found that it gave just a little more room to move my hand around if I unplugged the socket for the HID as well.

Besides removing the air filter, use the adjust wheel and adjust the aim to the highest position. That gives you a little more room and a lot less frustration. Of course, adjust your aim when you are done.
