So I am planning on heading to Rolling THunder next weekend and I am trying to resolve the Powerlet issue. I've searched the forums, but I would like some input from those of you with the 2008 Visions with Powerlets. Did you swap it out for a cig lighter or pony up the cash for the powerlet cables?

If you swapped the plug for the cig lighter, did you find that to be an easy mod? I've ordered the part with the plan of switching, but have been considering if it is easier to by the cables?

Let me know and thanks in advance.

Also, I order the UClear BT communicators. I will let you know how they work.

Powerlet issue????

I'm using the original Powerlet sockets and believe they are superior to a cigarette lighter socket. They make and retain a better connection. I used mine for heated gear, which comes with the Powerlet plugs stock (most brands today come with the Powerlet plug) and for a battery tender which just plugs into the socket in the trunk, using a Powerlet plug.

If you've got something that has a cigarette style plug, you can either get an inexpensive adapter or cut the plug off and put a Powerlet plug on it. That's my 2 cents.

It's a bit ridiculous how expensive the cords are. I am wanting to use it to run my gps on long trips, but charge my phone at times.

I purchased an adaptor which has a cig. lighter on one end and , with about a 3-4 inch cord with a powerlet plug-in on the other end. It costs about $5.00.

Powerlet is far superior to cigarette lighter. Especially on a motorcycle

The cost of what you pay on the retail end has everything to do with what is being produced.
You may save $10-20 on a cable or kit from somewhere else, but you now deal with it being a cigarette style that just will not stay plugged in over the course of your ride, additionally, once that economy cable fails, what are you going to do, send it back to the manufacturer? I didn't think so, they pretty much will tell you to pound sand, they may even say sorry, you've already opened the package, we do not return, refund or exchange electronic goods once they have been opened.

It is our belief that none of the aftermarket cables are warranted for life, as a matter of fact, there is built in obsolescence that occurs. We've all experienced it and what we would like is for consumers to realise that the cables that are produced at Powerlet are all made in short production runs, ( which in case you are unaware, drives the piece cost up pretty drastically), they are built to last, they are warranted for life, AND they are assembled by Americans who appreciate having a job. If you don't believe me, stop by our facility any time, we'll take you for the tour, cuz that is how we do it.
Further, we are not in the business to carry 10's of thousands of cables that will sit in inventory for years just to drive the price down slightly. It is not practical nor a business decision anyone would make if they knew all the fact as well as had a hint of experience in a production setting.

So before forum members take the plunge in wiring their bike the right way to serve them for the life of ownership, ask yourself again. If you're going to spend the time and effort to wire the bike, you may consider spending a couple extra bucks and outfit it with a line of products that are backed by the best warranty in the business and from a company that has stellar support history.

Thanks for the opportunity to state our case. We love being involved in this community and in this industry. As an OE supplier to Victory, Indian and Polaris, we know that our products have met all quality standards and we also realise that they are needed since sales history is what we have to go by.

Thanks,
Ride safe

I just purchased my vision and ran into the same issue. After much reading and debate I just purchased the adapter from a dealer for like $9.00. I would rather just buy a powerlet adapter that has the two cigarette plugins than to have to go through the trouble of re-wiring etc.. They really are nice and fit snug.,
