Yesterday while filling my tank and the automatic shut off did not shut off and I was not watching .  So the tank filled then overfilled. Gas spilled in to the compartment then down to the ground. (not over the side of the compartment but seeped out from below). I cleaned up the excess in the compartment and wiped down the motor. I put 100 miles on today (my commute) and had no problems other then the smell of gas when I got home. Is there anything that this could have done that I should worry about? The only thing that seems a little strange (besides the smell) is the "miles to empty" indicator was wrong. Usually after a normal fill it reads about 230 miles. This time it only read about 190. Just wondering if I should worry about this or not.

Gas Overfill: Nothing to worry about here, the smell of gas will subside. You haven't harmed anything.

Miles to Empty: It usually takes a couple minutes for the gas level sensor to calibrate and give an accurate reading after start up. That said, if you stopped filling your tank after the overfill spill, it may actually not be completely full and therefore read 190 miles correctly.

Forgive me you know this, Visions are notorious for needing time to equalize the 2 tanks during a fillup. Slowly keep adding gas until the gas stays in the filler neck after about 10 sec. You might need to jiggle the bike to be sure. I use my foot on the foot rest to "rock" the bike.

Thanks for the reply Jeff. I was hoping there was nothing to worry about. I usually fill up slowly but my mind was wandering this time (brain fart). Just wasn't paying attention. Thanks again for the input.

I've been using the McCuff [advertiser on this site] At first I was not happy with the product. I would fill up the pump would automatically shut off and then I would add about 1 gallon without the McCuff. I found, and this may be tied into Jeff's comment about filling two tanks, that if i then begin to fill the tank slower the second time [same fill up] I get pretty close to full.
