I just bought a used 2008 Vision with 16,500 miles on it. Right after I got it home, I noticed a 'squeal" when I leave off in first gear. I have very little travel in my clutch lever before it engages the clutch. The guy had a trailer hitch on the bike so I guess he did some towing. So am I already needing a clutch at 17,000 miles?!!!!!
There is ALSO a"chirping" sound on the right side of the bike for awhile if it is cold. It does this until the bike warms up.
So does anyone have any ideas to help me?

Oh yeah I have 5 times the miles on my 08 with the original clutch that started to squeal when I was using non Dino oil years back and letting it slip by holding the clutch lever like I would a dirt bike.

Change oil and adjust belt

Yep. Changing the engine oil should stop the clutch squealing. The chirping is the belt. Belt chirping is very common on belt drive bikes of all brands. Adjusting the belt might make it go away. You can also lube the edges of the belt with a lube designed for this purpose. Lots of folks recommend Harley Poly-oil belt lube. Some of us just rub a little soap on the edge of the belt occasionally. Don't use belt dressing, which is designed to increase friction. You want to reduce the friction between the belt edge and the pulley.

The squeal that you hear is the belt, you can adjust it or lube it, either way fixes it. I adjusted mine and no squeal in 60k+ miles. Or replace the pulleys.

Now no need for clutch that I can think of yet, what you are experiencing with the clutch grabbing just off the handgrip is the master cylinder is not pushing the clutch lever back out to its proper location. If you check you might find there is over 1/2 inch of play or more at the end of the handle! I have the same issue, I bought a master cylinder rebuild kit to see if that will fix it, but haven't found the time yet, to do it. The rubber dust boot that the handle pushes against is all torn up on mine and there is something jamming the piston rod from moving back out or the spring has gone bad. Of course, just my 1/2 penny.

Mine has a clutch squeal also. At first I thought I was doing a burn out...sounds like tire squeal on mine. Numerous oil changes due to numerous miles and it still squeals. It started at about 50k and at 79k now it still sounds the same. I'll ride it until it doesn't or I get a new Vision........

mkultra - do me a favor if you could and check your rear rotor for play. I thought my belt was squawking and squealing but it is my rotor, because it is very LOOSE. You have a few more miles than me and wondering if you've had any brake work done.

For what it's worth, go ahead and check the rear rotor and see if it is what is squealing.

Will check it tonite when I can see....still dark here. Mine is not belt squeal...learned how to fix that miles ago. Mine only occasionally makes it in first gear taking off from a light. Could be a rotor....could be old age...I squeal when first getting up sometimes. Whatever it is I'm still riding daily..This is the best motorcycle, handsdown.

john frey - I did check the clutch fluid and bled it. No change and the clutch fluid looked good, but had never been changed since 2007. Yep lubed the lever too. Something is keeping the master cylinder from pushing the clutch lever back out.

mkultra - I only asked cause, mine started sounding like a belt squeal. Then it would do it on take off and then slowing down under 5mph. Anytime I just crept along, squeal, or not, very intermittent. So, I wasn't giving it much thought. Even a little chirp on take off. Have you had any brake work done?

I definately do NOT think it is anything brake related. It sounds like you are spinning the rear tire on take off. The first time it done it, thats what I thought...MAN THIS THING REALLY HAS THE POWER, SPINNING THE REAR TIRE !!!!! But nah, belt or clutch squeel.

No brake work done, except pads and fluid change...rotor is tight. It does not happen all the time, and yes, it sounds like your spinning the rear tire. Clutch squeal I reckon, but Im not gonna worry about it. Theres plenty of other crap to worry about on a day to day basis. If it breaks I will fix it....

mkultra - Thanks for the lookey loo and getting down on the concrete! I guess VaRyder and myself and a couple of others have had this problem with the rotor.

It squeals like crazy and probably what I am hearing is some kind of metal on metal action. Now I'm just waiting for parts to arrive.

it has been a while since I've heard the banshees but it does sound like the clutch when it does. I've never been able to replicate the noise on demand, it just happens, but the conditions are the same, a quick take off, but it only does it the first second or so. As far as the rear rotor, I discovered it when I changed the rear tire once and it rattled. It would also get very hot, but it never made any noise or felt out of the way. I made a video on how loose it was and I always worried it would seperate so I replaced it with stock.

I think it is very important to lube the clutch lever. Mine didn't release all the way out and the bike won't go over 35 mph. I didn't know what the problem was at the time and had it towed to the dealer. I was lucky, because I was certain it was the clutch itself.

Prompting Vision1 as to whether or not he got it fixed.

As for me, I bought a rebuild kit. Not for a clutch but for the Brake master cylinder. I thought I was getting the Clutch rebuild kit, so I bought it and took it home, disassembled the clutch and the parts don't match. Take it back to the dealer and find out that he is unable to order a clutch rebuild kit. So, that leaves me with a question.

Really don't want to spend the $250 on a new clutch master, so does anyone know of a clutch rebuild kit?

I'll bet it's the throw-out bearing!!but not much money. Cars back in the day use to do that or make a simliar noise.

What parts didn't match? Yes the master cylinder for the break would have a valve of sort so it aplies pressure on brake line.

I would think clutch cylinder might not have that or maybe one less O ring. Wish you had photos
